Certainly makes it difficult to price domains

On second thought, price everything at $1988. If it feels low (you wouldn’t be happy to sell at that price), price higher, e.g. 4888 or 9888 (or use -99, -95 etc. if you don’t believe in ”88 magic”).

I’ve never understood the need to appraise individual domains. What should be evaluated (imo) is the quality of the portfolio. Then it’s about strategy, price categories/baskets, experimenting, maximizing STR*ASP (sell-through rate, average selling price) etc.

None, but if I had to choose one, that would be GD as most sales happen on AN.

Yeah I did some of this when picking domains... short, full words, no special characters or numbers, and tried to pick words relevant to each other.. mine are still probably a bit generic though. But I was trying to register new domains, and not necessarily buy available ones. I also think the 1-3% rate is more geared towards people overpricing their domains

No that's when you have good domains priced fairly, and selling to end users passively on marketplaces like Afternic and Sedo.

Generally, "ALL" automated appraisal tools are flawed, even AI Assistants (E.g. CoPilot, Grok, Gemini, etc.) are pulling data from unreliable sources at times that render an inaccurate result.

For instance, automated tools usually don't have a calculation for current trends, market shifts, etc. since each is in a different niche with completely different product/service sliding scale price points and other variables at play.

Another example, is when previous sales history is leveraged that was hyped and not a genuine real world use case. This is sometimes obvious when a domain is reported to have sold for xxxx and remains on a domainer related parked page for 10 years after the sale.

Or when you see a sales report for xxxx and then 3 years later it sells again for xxx and still parked a year after that. Again a red flag.

Manual appraisals, where the appraiser takes the time to actually dive into the niche, see what's trending, product/service pricing, business model, etc... are going to be the closest to accurate as you'll get and even then, it's not going to be 100% and just speculation.

On NamePros there are two manual appraisal options:
Remember, at the end of the day, a domain name is truly only worth what a buyer and seller agree on.

What works for one may not work for another.

Enjoy the domain adventure!

Hi

learn to use the forums' search function.
enter "appraisal tools" and dive in

remember this though
the more weight you give to appraisal tools -
the more weight they will have over pricing.

as in, there may come a day, when you cannot sell your name for more than the appraised value.

imo...

So that factors out the huge amount of people overpricing their domains? And what about at wholesale prices, percentages must be way higher than that. I sold my first domain in 3 weeks at a wholesale price

I'm talking about an individual investor's portfolio that has a large amount of good domains priced fairly and listed at the major marketplaces.

If you set prices at wholesale, of course the sell-through-rate goes up.

Got it... also wondering how much my domain sales will improve once they pass the 60 day registration period and they are eligible for the Afternic premium network?

No need to spend time thinking about the 60-day lock period. Just list everything and relax. Most sales will come from domains that have been listed for 1+ years.

I think GD appraisal is a good indicator of value but far from accurate...

For example, a $2500 appraised domain might be worth $5000-$10000
And a $5000 appraised domain might be worth $25000+

There are other factors involved, and I wouldn't rely solely on GD appraisal.

For me, I don't need to use it when buying a domain anymore, but it was helpful when starting out.
