I do not want to pay a drop-catching service and am pretty confident the domain in pendingDelete I want is not going to be backordered by anyone else.

What is the fastest site i can go through a manual registration with once it drops? So i dont have to go through pages of payment details etc.?

Login, click "domains" drop-down, select "api" and you should be able to set your key there.

Setting up api access is pretty much similar across other registrars that have it. You can also find your registrars api documentation by googling "your registrar" + api

We have a watch list that you can add the domain(s) to. Once the status changes, we will email you about it.

Also, we're glad to hear people have been using our drop catch and API successfully. We do recommend using prepay with our service as that will make any order complete much faster. Our drop catch starts at around $15.99, but could go higher if it goes to auction, especially depending on the domain name, so that is something to consider when you decide how much to prepay. Please let us know if you have any more questions!
I used the Dynadot API in a Python script to attempt to catch a domain. However 10 minutes in...my API key was banned for abuse. Can you verify what the rate limit on the API is? I read somewhere that the only limit was how long it takes to complete each subsequent request. I was only requesting the API after the previous call finished yet was still blocked.

Thanks for asking. We don't have a rate limit; however, the ban is set if you send a second request before the previous request has completed. You can include a response check in your script to avoid this. You can also use the command "is_processing" to check whether there are any processing requests. That way you if you get a connection timeout, you can call this command before sending an actual command to prevent getting an IP ban.

The ban is automatically removed after 10 minutes if you don't send any other commands, so you don't need to contact us to remove it. Also, I noticed some people had questions about our API and we do have more info on our website here: https://www.dynadot.com/domain/api.html

I had the same problem using urllib2. What I found was that closing the connection after having received the response would for some reason get me banned sometimes.

When I did not close the connection after receiving the data and just opened a new one I did not have this problem.

Running two scripts at once or or trying to make several connections = immediate ban for me.

If it is a desirable domain one of the dropcatching services will beat you to it.

It is best to backorder it with several backorder services to have the best chance at getting it.

try pheenix.com or dynadot to drop catch it. $12-$20 is not a big deal..

namesilo is fast especially if you have enough $ balance. I don't know if it's the fastest.

Of the ones I've used I think Uniregistry is quite fast.

I considered using DropCatch.com, but honestly i question their legitimacy .whats stopping them from putting in a fake bid so it goes to public auction? Ive read horror stories on here about DropCatch.

if they put a fake bid, they must return your money from your bid(s). what is the problem then? if you try to catch an extremely vauable domain, there will be high bids anyway

Crikey, if it's so important and seconds are vital, just use the bloody drop-catch service!

Dynadot can provide an API Key. I used it a few years ago within an excel Spreadsheet with a Macro to loop through a list of names that were dropping. If the name was available, the API Key would register the name for me. I was only able to register 2 names out of probably hundreds of tries -- I just couldn't beat the big boys in terms of Drop-catching resources.

From Dynadot's Support Pages:

Dynadot API
The domain tool of domain tools
Manage your domains with Dynadot's API! Our API, or application program interface, provides you with the tools to build and use your own software and servers to search for domains, register domains, and more. Dynadot's API is available to all accounts, so choose the right API option for you to get started today!

DN
