BM.ai (an expired .ai domain) was recently sold for $55,000 via an expired-domain auction. The .ai domain/website had been active for about 20 years. What happened?

The former owner, Yoshitaka Murayama, passed away on February 6, 2024, at the age of 55, at least according to Wikipedia.

So what happens to your domains if you die?
Some people say the owner’s relatives might receive part of the auction proceeds (for bm.ai). I doubt it.

I have a hard copy of them with all the registrars, domains and login info, as well as an instruction manual on how to manage them or liquidate them in a fire+water proof safe, so my family can easily just follow the instructions to do what they want with them. ;)

I assume the manual/hard copy contains email passwords.

Meantime, where do you keep the document?

^Correct - Registrar, email, hosting, financial institutions, online payment processors, etc.. access information along with instructions for each and how to use them together, liquidate, cash-out, etc.. (if needed)

It's actually in a 5ft. tall / 1+Ton browning safe located in a hidden area only inner-circle family know about.

I would assume, most people could just use a lockbox, but analytical overkill sometimes passes on to other stuff in my life, where I over-do-it a little.

Just post them here. Don't bother your family members when they don't know about domain names.

We can help.

Considering I’ve been accused of clickbait (at least twice), at least it’s good clickbait.

It is actually in your toilet .....
How the hell do you move a 5 ft 1ton safe??

A dead-man's switch also works. Can make digital systems, where if you haven't logged into certain services in X amount of time, it can send emails to pre-approved people with the data to recover assets.

You pay the company to deliver and install it, of course... lol

Note: most large safe companies have a delivery service and install options available.

So I guess lots of people know where the safe is besides your inner circle of family 🤣 😂 🤣

Mine will all expire. A gift to my fellow domainers.

Please explain.
When I die, no one will renew them. They will all expire. So, they will be available in the drop. Hopefully someone will grab a decent one cheaply.
