Why do people rave about oscommerce? I'm trying to set up my first oscommerce store and thus far I've found 3 things.

1: It's time-consuming and nit-picky
2: It's by NO means idiot friendly and DEFINTELY not even remotely user-friendly for me.
3: The 'tutorials' aren't accurate and don't seem to work.

I'm lousy at all thing web designy/programming, but This is ridiculous. In the time it's taken me to get 4 billion T errors struggling with OSCommerce, I could have set up 5 cubecart stores. Gross.

So, what am I missing?

I agree with you. I gave it a shot but then gave up with it completely

I haven't tried it in a while, but I remember experiencing the same frustration.

Agreed, however, if you are a programmer (or have good php knowledge), it's great! For being a free app, its quite extensive considering the free modules out there. In my opinion, the problem comes with integrating the modules. Adding 1 or 2 isn't that bad, but the more you add, the more spagetti your page code gets. I would recommed looking at zencart and chainreaction reloaded. ZenCart is a branch off of oscommerce, it will not be utilizing any new oscommerce features. ChainReaction Reloaded takes the latest oscommerce and the most popular modules (over 50), and has then allready integreated into one tight install package. CR stays true to oscommerce, so when the next release of oscommerce comes alog, CR will integrate the new release in it's distribution.

Good luck!

oscommerce is the most difficult script i ever installed but it's worth it but Im sure you can find some substitutes that are far more better in features.
