We've received a request to refund the following order

Just got this email from Godaddy.

"We've received a request to refund the following order:"

and I was refunded the amount for an auction I won a few days ago

So far I have never lost a name I have won at auction to someone renewing it.

Is that what this means - they have renewed the name and I lost it?

They do not give an explanation for the refund.

Also, does anyone know how long it takes to get the refund, and what form it is in (credit card credit or GD credit)?

Welcome to the downside of GD auctions.

So this is the email, and what it looks like when you lose a name won at auction, to renewal?

Do you know how they refund you and how long it takes?

I pay by credit card, so the refund is to my credit card. It only takes a day or two to get the refund.

I'm not sure how the refund is given if you pay by some other means...

Regards,
DN

The owner has renewed the name, You will get your refund in 2 days time in most cases, if they are unable to do so they will add that as Instore credit in your GD account.

The two times this happened to me, I never received an email; I had to contact GD support to get the refund.

I guess I am lucky I got the email.

When I went to my account and looked in the "won" area, it was gone.

If I had not gotten the email, I would not have even known I had lost it.

A pretty bad way for a big company like GD to do business, if you ask me!

Absolutely ! The second time this happened to me, it was quite fun. The owner transfered the domain out of Godaddy, but the GD employee over the phone thought I could still have my chances to get the domain ! I was tryng to convince him that it was out of GD's control already !

Welcome to Godaddy Auction game where Buyer keep watch the item for 10 days. Spend lots of time for keep watching/bidding/winning and ultimately Buyer is loser if Original Owner renew the name in 45 days. I understand Godaddy will say as Buyer you agreed to terms bla bla bla.. How many people in the world read hundreds/thousands pages of Terms and condition???

I don't know how in the world if Godaddy can wait 30 days to start Expired domain auction then why not wait for 45 days and then start so Buyer is 100% assured that they will get the name they spent time and money.

Does not matter what kind of explanation will be given by Godaddy but their expired domain auction is complete waste of time because no one knows what will happen even after winning auction.

This way Godaddy let some big ticket item holder to giving official licence to taste the current value of their domain and Buyer becomes loser most of time.

I did won several expired domain auction but I lost few domains because of renewal. This is not right way to handle any transaction.

For any platform Buyer and Seller should be assured of 100% sales. They don't care what we says about their company. If someone start giving better services sooner or later Godaady has to pay the price for that. Nothing is permanent. There is always room for improvement in anything.

Thanks

Welcome to Godaddy Auctions! I've won many auctions only to have my money refunded because the original owner renewed the name or was transferring the name out.

Either way, it's certainly not clear why Godaddy chooses to start auctions when the original owner still has control over the domain name. Seems like an obvious system flaw that they could easily fix if they wanted to.

Only Godaddy can answer this. I would imagine there is some logical reasoning behind it.

You should have got an email that said the owner has renewed the domain.
If you got an email that didn't say the owner renewed the domain, then you better call them. I have lost many auctions due to owner renewal, but I always got an email saying specifically that the owner has renewed the domain, not "We've received a request to refund the following order:"!

That is weird that the email says "request"! At who's "request"? You should call them.

Yeah, I think if more days pass, the domain will drop.

I didn't know that, thanks.

I've had this happen a number of times. It's very frustrating. There are people who allow their domains to expire and they watch the auction to see how it goes. Then they renew it and possibly sell it back to the auction winner. I never truly believe a domain is mine until I transfer it to another registrar.

What happened to him sounds different than if the owner renewed the domain.

It should say in the email that the domain was renewed, not that they got a "request to refund the order"!!!

On the phone with GD right now to find out what happened.

Waiting on hold while they check.

Will update here as soon as I have the answer.

can you cut and paste the entire email in the thread, minus any details you don't want known?

Just got off the phone with GD.

Apparently it went back to the original owner who renewed it.
