I dont want people to see my personal infomation how can I hide my whois. I know domainsbyproxy.com is one but I dont think it will work with my service. I have 1and1 as my domain provider. I also dont want to transfer to a different company so anyone know of a way to show a different whois by the proxy type company.

I think the only way is to move to another domain registrar that has whois protection :(

Or you could try e-mail 1and1 and hope they have it.

Why can't you use domainsbyproxy? I thought you could use them with any registrar?

However, some say that once you reg the domain, you cannot really hide your identity as whois.sc will store the old record when it was not private. However, One does have to pay $15.00 a month to get this info from them so that is sort of a consolation. There may be other places you can check whois histories but I can't say for sure. I only know of whois.sc.

Some registries do not allow WHOIS protection/proxy
such as .US and .HK...

Move to RegisterFly.com and they will give you ProtectFly for free for 1 good year!!

He said he didn't want to transfer and if I recall, transferring out of 1and1 was a pain in the arse.

There are plenty of people offering privacy service without changing registrars. Be very careful when choosing such a company. Very few of them provide you with the full legal security you need. Certainly not the cheapie ones, and even most registrars don't. Read the fine print.

Also, some of these services do not really make you anonymous. They assign you a number instead of a name. But any number can be tied back to a name with enough data.

Whois.sc is one place anyone can get this data. Other people have it as well. I have some historical whois data for about 1% of all names registered in the most popular extensions. This may not sound like a lot but it's over 50 gigs of data and it comes in handy. I've used it to track a lot of anonymous names back to their owner.

Give some thought to who you want to hide this information from and why you want to hide it before spending any money.

whois.sc seems to only provide history on names that were researched at whois.sc. meaning, if you made your domain private now but it was never looked up thru whois.sc, there will be no retained history.

...working with 1+1 registration is a bit like shooting yourself in the foot before you start......
despite your guidelines I would still recommend transferring the name to namecheap.com if the name is still to be retained......

Just get a PO Box or business address somewhere (UPS store, etc.).
The domains by proxy stuff is a load of BS

You can get WhoIs by proxy, which basically hides your details from public view. I actually haven't used Proxy before but I think you can get it for an extra 60 NP$ on top of the cost of the domain registration. I'm sure you could find more information about it somewhere.

Really the only option you have left from what you have told us is to put in fake whois info, and that can be dangerous! the only option you really have is moveing :D

The advantage of a (good) “private registration” service that is not tied to your registrar is that you can use it when you register names at any registrar. You input the contact details yourself, but not yours. You put in the ones defined by the private registration service.

So you sign up for this service once, get the contact details once, and then use them. New names start of anonymous. They stay anonymous when you transfer registrars. And if you set up accounts at various registrars with these anonymous contact details and transfer your names to them a few at a time it looks a lot like you have sold your names off to someone using an anonymous service.
