hey all-

so, i've been on kind of a .us kick lately, especially when verbs are involved.
these dropped today.

hurts .us nudge .us signaling .us

they all show pretty high search numbers and semi-decent estibot values, and i'm wondering how that might translate to value-wise, especially considering the use of verbs.
does that limit them too much to be readily usable?

i know they're only $6 ea to reg, so i'm thinking it wouldn't be a stretch at all to think i'll at least double my $$ (provided i find a buyer), and potentially do much better than that.

anyway, please let me know if i'm screwing up by collecting these things, before i get too carried away with it.
:)

i hope all are having a relaxing sunday morning.

all the best-
michael

I don't really see a verb making a .us worth more or less than a noun .us or a preposition .us or an interjection .us etc. I had sitting.us (verb) and sold it for about the same price I regged it for.

It's easy to collect to much rubbish ( i have :) )

Signaling.us is the only 1 i'd buy at $6 (but wouldn't buy on the aftermarket)

Theres better names available for $6

You just need to search for them,

I have about 900 give or take .us names.

and i'd say i'll let 200 or so drop this year, I may pick up another 200 this year, so hopefully they will be better names.

out of 30 i've let drop the last few months atleast 20 were regged again by someone else. (i think, i dont have a list but it's pretty close to them all)

i actually pick 4 of them again myself :)

Dont go regging to many of that type as they are not worth it, as there too hard to develop/resell.

thanks for the replies.

so, i'm a little confused....
when estibot gives me a number of, say, $1100 for hurts.us, is that to be ignored?

my strategy has been to try to keep it limited to domains that app on estibot for at least $400 (i have some that appraise lower, but i liked them so i took them anyway), as i figured that would be a safe bet for my $6 investment (altho i know they're pretty much worth $0 until i find an interested buyer).

i probably only have 10 or 15 of them at this point, as i'm trying to focus on .com domains instead.
i usually only pick up a couple a day, if estibot/valuate show anything decent, but given the replies, i'm starting to doubt that strategy......

the tough thing about this domaining stuff, is that i enjoy the hunt for it's own sake.
that is why i currently own 15 guitars 45 tattoo machines of various vintages, and why i have to rent a storage unit to house all of my other collections.

at least domain names dont take up much space...
:)

thanks again for the input.

all the best-

Estibot is a GREAT site but its appraisals aren't 'human.' They are generated from a script. Only use Estibot's appraisals (or any free appraisal, actually) for entertainment. Never take them serious.

If you are a "collector" by nature then domaining can be a very expensive hobby:$::$::$:

The thing that I like best about .us domains is the opportunity to get good quality names for reg fee, like you said...it is the hunt.

If you are going to collect .us domains then jump on the names that Stevie lets drop cuz his worst .us names are better the most peoples best .us domains:p

hey archangel-
yeah, i didn't think estibot's appraisals were dead on, but i didn't think that the real difference would be as great as $1k vs reg fee.
then again, without an interested buyer, they're pretty much only worth the fun i had hunting for them.

btw, i dig your sig line, and feel that it was the newer crud coming out of our country that's been largely responsible for killing good music. (no offense to any brittany fans who may be reading this)

hey grina-

yep, the hunt is actually quite fun.
it's like the ultimate scavenger hunt (even tho i'm pretty sure anything of any real value is backordered and i'll never see them available).
in any event, i spend less on this than i used to spend on beer, and the hangovers aren't anywhere near as bad.
besides, i don't know if you've ever tried selling a pre-owned beer to someone, but i think a pre-owned domain name would stand a much better chance of finding a buyer.

speaking of which, i can't believe "preownedbeer.com" is still available....
:)

thanks again, all.

The hunt can be fun. Sometimes, you find good ones and at others, eh. I own MedicalLawyers.us and DeadSexy.us The first gets a hefty chunk of change in AdWords and the latter? I just liked it. It's taken in all major exts and it fit the .us well. (I'm selling the latter if you're interested).

Keep this in mind with Estibot: It appraises ChildPorn.com at $11,000. Now... do you know anyone who'd pay $1 for that?

Oh, with my sig: Someone had to apologize :p

hey archangel-
hunting domains is definitely fun, and i'm glad i can keep it to droplists instead of $xxx+ auctions.
not quite ready for that yet......

as for "childporn.com", it redirects to a "parents protecting their kids" site.
"childporn.net" redirects you to a "eco condom" site.

both are using "childporn" to bring traffic to their sites (i think redirecting "childporn" to a condom shop is pretty screwed up, but it is what it is).

i think that, while i personally don't know anybody that would pay $1 for it, there are definitely people who would pony up the $$$ to do it, if the numbers were there.

people have done far worse in the name of profit, unfortunately.

all of that aside, i do get what you're saying about estibot, and i know it's always a matter of finding someone who's actually wanting to buy something.

this is where developing interests me.
websites that generate a profit are better than domains that don't.
i better read up on that......

as far as music.....
we've had a lot of great acts.
we've had a few bad ones, but i think the overall catalog of artists is pretty impressive.
the lameness of brittany can't take that away from us.
:)
