Here's my question..what is the value of domain hack? I've seen some good domain hack and i was wondering about the value of it. I myself own one and i'm not sure whether or not i should get more. I haven't seen any sale of domain hack. Why do we register domain hack? Is it because the domain looks cool or because there's a potential end user who's willing to buy such domain?

google will not be bothered until is used in "badfaith" i guess. I have seen couple of cases google registered against few who owned google related domains.
offcourse they will be monitoring these domains

I think we can be sure that Google noticed it and they will react.
It looks like many of those a/b/c/...google.com domains are currently not under control of Google - they are used as forwarding parking sites for some shifty advertising / product sites ('Congrats, you have won an iphone').

Finally, let's remember, this thread is about (the value of) domain hacks.

They own googlesucks.com and I think they snatch up Google related domain names when they can. Also there's too many domain names using Google as part of a longer name. Maybe they no longer care.

People love Domain hacks for their startups & companies , it makes them stand out.

I have Future.Zone & Carrying.info .

Domain hacks dont have a great reseller market , they are only good for end user sales.

These domains are NOT hacks.

Any Domain in which the extention is combined with the domain to make the whole thing meaningful is a domain hack IMO .

Eg. Iwantmy.name

Just like Future.zone , The TLD is combined to complete the brand name or phrase. This is called a phrase hack.

Similarly there are Word hacks like Doma.in

I have attached a detailed file on types of domain hacks . IMO .

Interesting, it is difficult to find sales info on past sold hacks, since you'd have to search each ccTLD itself. Anyone know a better way or better source?

I've done a few namebio searches in ccTLDs I own, of which there are 26

Oh gosh I just saw this thread dates back to 2007, forgive me if this info is somewhere already, I will make a note to go back thru and look also, although I am most interested in current prices and sales.

Hacks are such a gamble. Even good ones. Who do you target as buyers? They were probably hand-regged for a reason. The best reason to buy a hack is to use it for yourself. Somebody actually looking for a hack usually has plenty of options. I don't "feel" these have any resale value. I'd ask for a refund if the .es ccTLD has that option.

I own one .es hack which is for myself: brandabl.es

It's a one word and a popular word among domainers and startups.
Personally I wouldn't invest much in them either unless I have a personal use such as development. Some sites I use often happen to be hacks.
I would love to hear what others think?

@rivey001 - Maybe you should use that for your website :) It tells the visitor exactly what you are selling. Then heavily SEO it. I like it.

Sometimes I think likewise. I also think of using perfectstartups.com, but I have too much invested in GotBrands To not use it and it's also straight forward and brandable itself, especially if marketed. I would feel terrible wasting my money lol.. But brandabl.es could still be developed separately. it's also good to have my main site in Dotcom since I'm selling all dot coms.
