Value of Domain Hacks

Here's my question..what is the value of domain hack? I've seen some good domain hack and i was wondering about the value of it. I myself own one and i'm not sure whether or not i should get more. I haven't seen any sale of domain hack. Why do we register domain hack? Is it because the domain looks cool or because there's a potential end user who's willing to buy such domain?

what can they do to stop you since you are not infringing on their trademark like STP said.

Its a stupid idea. You want to own pu.ma so you can mooch of the identity of puma to earn a few bucks. Very bad idea. Get your own identity, they worked hard to build theirs.

Just regged Fotbal ; it means soccer in romanian and czech with tons of exacts. Hell of a hack! Voetbal(dutch) is already taken and redirects to a FB page.

You can't knock someone trying to get theirs, even if it is from minor sales coming from their domain. It isn't like they are selling knock-off (counterfeit) goods off their site, right?

Well it is against the law to profit by misuse and/or misrepresentation of someone else's trademark. This is not just a matter of opinion.

The vast majority, albeit not all, of companies with affiliate programs will explicitly forbid affiliates from using domains with their trademarks (or variations thereof) to generate commissionable sales.

You may have better luck using the domain as a fan site and monetizing through tertiary ads (not directly Puma) but even that could be tricky depending on how it's presented.

That's true but this directs to the main reason this discussion started.

At the moment companies can only file a UDRP (which costs 1500$ to defend if i am correct) and the chances are like 50/50. So anyone can decide if it's worth it.

Domain hacks are only appropriate for exclusively web based services IMO. A domain like countri.es or chai.rs is worth zero.

If someone had pu.ma, they would not try to make pennies out of PPC or pennies out of affiliate programs and/or piss TM owners in anyway. They already are on a goldmine, all they need to do is sell it off to Puma for use as a url shortener.

I think as with most hacks there is value but only if you find the correct buyer ??
