I suppose this is nothing new but I have just seen a very nice video (can't show you cos you're too young :p ) advertising a sedo parking page URL (hey, I was curious :guilty: )

The video had 1,150,000 + views and the parking page has had 8,500 views pm !

Another example of a Pump & Dump Scam which is obviously against sedo's terms.

Watch out if you're buying crappy names just based on traffic :snaphappy:

ps - Its obviously a great idea if you have a proper website/service

This has been going on for quite awhile. There's really nothing that parking companies can do about it -- it's happening way too frequently to enforce, plus it's awfully easy to just setup new parking accounts if you get caught.

Why people buy (supposed) traffic names that are not an obvious generic or mega name of some kind is beyond me

It is beyond me and beyond most domainers that have been around a while. But, this will continue because there are always new people to the business and some old timers that can't resist the temptation of something that is obviously too good to be true.

Glad to know I'm not alone in wondering why people purchase these types of names...

If it wasn't a previously developed website (expired), isn't a common typo, or isn't generic in nature, one should ask themselves why a domain is getting any significant amount of traffic.

I've noticed a few times after watching a video on YouTube then typing in the URL that has been branded on their video that it's a parking page.

Another reason why I have no real interest in traffic names that are non-generics.

I get the feeling this might be because the person who made the video had a website and it failed, then it was snapped up and re registered, the end rsult a parked page. The only way to determine this would be to check the age of the youtube video. If the video is old, than most likely if was a failed or forgotten website attempt IMO
