Any appraisals would be welcomed. A bit of history behind this name: As an avid soccer player I knew the importance of this name. 1994 USA world cups were just held in the U.S. and I was so excited to have this name.

In 2003 I had an offer of 8400 from a U.S. organization. At that time being in school at all didn't care about their offer and did not negotiate and just told them it was too low.
Fast forward to 2009 I received an offer of 4000 from a National Sporting Goods chain and I told them that I had a better offer years ago and that was it. Also they did not hide their identity at all when contacted me.

My question is this? How much realistically this name is worth in your opinions? All comments and guidance will be greatly appreciated.

Your future offers may be weary of the FIFA propensity to think they own the rights to all things WC, and keep a lid on the offer amount. Making the 8400 possibly an excellent offer. Goodluck

I actually have checked yes FIFA is a trade mark name but no one has rights to USA World Cup or world cup name as far as I know

I could see this name going for mid to high $xxxx.

But keep in mind that domain names are not appreciating. The peak was years ago and I suspect values will keep falling over the long-term. Previous offers are of very little relevance in my experience.

I agree that the peek was years ago very true. That's why I was asking so I can be prepared if I get an offer as to how much realistically I can price it.

All things considered, $4000 looks like a good magic number :)

Yes, 'world cup' is a registered trademark, registered by FIFA and many other organizations. There have been threads about this World Cup issue before here on the forum. Google 'world cup trademark' or check uspto or trademarkia and you'll see hundreds of listings, that include just world cup, and world cup with other keywords.

Here is an excerpt from one article about FIFA, who registered theirs in 2007 I think:
If there is one thing that we all know by now it is that FIFA is in the business of making money. The world’s football governing body will talk the good talk about promoting the sport and peace worldwide and to some degree it does, but the bottom line is the bottom line.

Another thing we know all too well around this site is that FIFA’s bottom line is something they don’t want you to mess with. That is why they have a slew of lawyers on hand if you try to encroach on their territory. Like if you try to use the words “World Cup 2010″, for example.

Nice that you received high offers for the name, but since it is a definite TM you're playing with fire. Have to give you the standard appraisal that I give all TM names - zero value, possible legal problems, drop the domain.

Sorry about bearing the bad news; good luck, welcome to Namepros :)

Thanks much Bannen. However WorldCup also applies to other sports if you see on google. I just did not find any exact TM issues with WorldCup phrase. I have even tell you the truth emailed FIFA years ago to ask no response and then I conducted research. I totally agree with your posted quote however from what I found is this:

if anyone registers any WorldCup soccer sites and if that entity uses the name FIFA any where on his or her site then that web site is breaking the TM rules. Whenever I had the site up it was always to support the US National Soccer Team in the World Cup I never ever mentioned anything about FIFA which is the internatinal soccer organization. So yes if I would 've used "FIFA" anywhere on the site which I really don't need to use FIFA then that could have been trouble. Type WorldCup in Google and you will see DubaiWorldCup RugbyWorldCup CricketWorldCup etc. . . So if any of those sites mention anything about FIFA then the international soccer organization will be all over them.

Today, $3,XXX - $6,XXX, would be a realistic price-tag.

That $8,400 offer you received was a real gem :)
