Sellers of Internet addresses surf for — and get — some big payoffs
By Jon Swartz, USA TODAY
SAN FRANCISCO — Internet domain names are red-hot again.

This year, 15 names used in Internet addresses have resold for at least six figures to companies and individuals hoping to tap into big audiences. On.com got $635,000. Macau.com fetched $550,000.

Sex.com went for a record $12 million in cash and stock to adult-entertainment company Escom in January, according to...

Not a lot of meat to the story, but we may see an increase of newbie speculators coming in to the market as a result of it.

(Hmmm... May be the perfect chance to get rid of some of those "non-performers" at a nice profit... Excellent, Smithers... :hehe: )

Thanks Fonz!

Was traveling today and just got home.

I always forget there are other sections/topics.

Just went to post it there and it turns out that "Fewski" has already posted it. He/she actually beat me to the punch on the original post by about 15 minutes this morning.

I hate to rain on the parade, but the article ignores the simple reality check that 95% of all .COM names will never be sold in this lifetime. Articles like these add only more debris to the 50m high dotcom trash heap.

yep - I can't find a .com zip code that hasn't been taken. Thats not to say there aren't, but even obscure rural ones around my area have gone.

Well there is still opportunity on the full Zip Code.

e.g. 90120-4125.com
