A new USA Today article on domains is out today: http://www.usatoday.com/tech/news/2006-04-13-hot-domain-names_x.htm

Briefer than I expected based on how many people the writer interviewed but that is USA Today's style. By the way, I will be on San Francisco radio station KGO at approx. 10:45 am Eastern time (30 minutes from now) to talk about the article.

Sorry, they contacted me on such short notice I didn't have time to check and see if they had a live feed on the web. Turns out they do but the interview is already over. Went well I thought and the hosts were very interested in the explosion of interest in the domain market. Seems like there is a new article in mainstream media almost every week now. That helps increase recognition of the value in good domain names.

Agreed - congratulations on the interview and thanks for sharing the article with us. I think publicity for the domain industry as a whole continues to grow and honestly that's good news in many respects for those of us who are already in it (including someone small like myself).

As more people — and advertisers — move online, it has created opportunities for an estimated 1,000 to 2,000 domainers, individuals who buy and sell domain names, says Ron Jackson, publisher of Domain Name Journal.

Good article, but where did you get this number from? Just wondering.

It's a best guess. That's what estimated means. No one knows what the actual number might be. I would guess there are less than 1,000 making a full time living as domainers. For a fair number of others it provides a supplemental income. I would consider those making little or no money at it to be hobbyists and wouldn't count them as professional domainers (though some will undoubtedly advance to that stage).
