It appears the domain industry has been starting to take notice of the .us namespace over the past year, read DnJournal.com .us growth and Namepros with even greater expectations for the year to come.

So I thought it would be a good idea to ask everyone to show us your .us domain names. You can post your favorites or your entire portfolio.

Thank you all for the advice, all of it good and sensible.

Right now, I'm leaning toward the counter offer route. I don't have any immediate need for money, and I really think that this is a strong, solid name, even in the .us extension, and even more so this year.

I'm going sit on this for a few hours before I decide for sure.

Sure, take your time.
Don't counter-offer within 5 minutes of receiving the bid notification from Sedo - that would be a telltale sign you are eager to sell :gl:

I remember how excited and happy you were when you obtained Unity. That should factor into it somewhat :)

To me it's a hugely religious term and a great one.

Good Luck in whatever you do... maybe the offer is a gift from lost friends. Who's to say :)

The bidding on some of today's Godaddy .us auctions has been very aggressive--

I guess no big secret since at least two domain blogs and a few Namepros threads have blabbed about some of today's expired premium .us offerings.

Getting a good one will cost ya!

The two I really wanted have already gone w-a-a-a-y past my budget, although I managed to get a nice consolation prize, which may or may not make it through Godaddy's dangerous redemption week. If not, no big deal.

Looks like .us has a bit of life left, especially premiums.

I'll say no more.

They should do it after. It's amazing to see how many people create more competition for themselves, if they're actually interested in some of the domains in the auction. I always hear, most people know about it, which will be true but it just takes 1 more knowing about it, could be an overspending newbie driving the price up, could be anybody that wouldn't know until some blog or forum post brought it up. It's just kinda dumb.

In looking backwards, I wish I held slipped a few of my own into the buying frenzy via auction.

I often wonder about this.

Domain Shane is always saying, "I will be bidding on this."

???

Or it's just a diversionary tactic to take eyeballs away from his REAL bidding.

I don't know if he has other domains he has his eye on and won't post those. But if he's posting names he's actually planning on bidding on, and I've seen him say that, it's just straight up stupid.

The auctions are attended by speculators (including me :)).
The challenge is not to spot the bargains (that were advertised) but to resell at a profit.

Cloud is still up for bid:

over $8,000

Crazy!
Too expensive imho. At this point it's more a gamble than an investment.

I was interested in 2 but they were both renewed/transferred before today. I'm dropping all my US except for a couple of name that are specific to the US.

Looks like PRODUCT.us are the winners for GoDaddy and more brand based names are the winners for bidders.
I always found the .US market interesting... but it's speculative and I do get the sense that the whole "be american" trend is slowing... so I'm not sure how you sell the benefits of a .us. It's a slightly better / easier gamble than .TV/.CO but not by much, imho.

I think anyone with more than a passing interest in .US knew this was the 10th anniversary.

Cloud on a ccTLD seems counter intuitive to me. Clouds are supposed to be everywhere, ubiquitous etc. I would imagine that enough hosting companies are aware of this auction that it is an end user.

Also noticed a couple of smart people switched the auction from "Expiring" to "Counter/Counteroffer"

See Demos.us :)

Renewals!

Smart move, I think, one I'll keep in the back of my mind.

Yep, I'm waiting for the renewal hammer to drop on my wins.

:D

Interesting point.
But I think ccTLDs still make sense, especially in cloud where issues of jurisdiction and sovereignty are going to be more crucial :)

When I think ccTLDs that make sense I think .de, .es, .it, .nl, .co.uk, .ie... but not .us.

I can't look beyond the .COM for the US market in this instance (Yeah, I'm wrong, probably).

I see .us all the time. The latest is movement.us. It was plastered all over Detroit this weekend and seen by tens of thousands.
