.us .us or .tv or high priced .com?

Hi folks,

I am looking for a nice name for a popular keyword. The name will be developed into a mega website and of course will be advertised.

Now, the question, for the particular name I am looking for, the .com is gone. In fact many variations for that keyword, .com are gone and they are very high priced to buy from resellers.

So I am thinking instead of spending lot of money to get a particular .com, I could as well get available .us or .tv extension and use that money to promote the site heavily.

What do you guys think? Is .us better or .tv better for this purpose? Or do you think I should get high priced .com?

It would depend upon the target audience. Are you soley targetting an American audience or are you looking to target an international audience? .us probably wouldn't be the best idea if you're going international.

Depends on product and or target market.
I would say .US if you are selling a product or service destinctive to United States (blue jeans, coca-cola) and promote the .US as American.
I think the .TV will soon be an extremely active domain
(1 yr out) so you would need big money to swim with big fish. Bigger audiance behind TV ads. More patriotism behind .US.

One more thing to possibly consider. I think ICANN is going to release the .com's to an international body and re-establish the .US as the official United States TLD or IDN. So I think the .US will be huge when MSFT. comes up with a safe system to be implmented to allow an international body to govern the .com's. (1 to 2 yrs)

You might want to look at .info for a high-quality alternative to .com in the international namespace, if the extension fits with your development ideas.

Is this a commercial project? are you selling something you may want to consider .biz. .info like Rocket said if it suits the ext and is not selling a project. I am a fan of .tv but if it not intuitive to tv then that not the best ext.

Yes the movement is on hold. My MSFT refference was sarcasm implying only MSFT could design such a system and then we would all need to worry. Pretty much a sarcastic joke about MSFT. However I do think the transfer of control will happen. Foriegn trade was actually discussed in the hearings.......This is of course my opinion. :imho:

The last I heard on it ICANN told them to go **** themselves
in so many words..
It'll never happen, if anything the US Government owns the internet.
They started it and They gave it to the public.
There's NO way they're going to lose control of all of it..
It would be caos with new tlds that some se's or Proxys wouldn't
recognize to start..
