How about reopening the .US dedicated section which was removed during relaunch earlier this summer?

Interest in .us seems to be picking-up and the top threads in the cctld section are continually .us. This would help both .us and the other cctld's in that section.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

Get real. It was a ghost town.

The "Show off your .US domain names" thread has 1,742 replies. "value of LLL.us" (one of my favorites) has more than 700 replies and 33,000 views. Four .US threads have activity already today and there were many posts yesterday as well. I'm not claiming that it is as active as other boards, but don't try to tell us that we didn't enjoy the .US forum while it lasted. If it was a "ghost town", "empty room", with "zero activity", we wouldn't all be pushing so hard to have it reinstated.

This is my last post on this suggestion thread. It is your forum, and if Namepros does not care for .US discussion, so be it.

People are already discussing it. The discussions are just contained in relevant threads.

The only reason the .MOBI forum is "active" is because it is just full of people opening threads to pimp their domains despite the fact there is a sub-forum .MOBI Marketplace where I would think that stuff should actually be posted.

Brad

I think you guys might have missed the key sentence in my previous post.

Discuss and the forum will come... give us a reason to make another split.

Brad is dead-on with this comment. One of the reasons there are ONLY 7 active .US threads is that we (active users of the .US threads) post our comments within those relevant threads. When a new thread is started the mod's usually merged it into the general .US discussion thread.

Cronus I'm with you 100%. This whole situation could have been handled much more professionally by the NP crew and if there is no energy to set-up a separate section that's fine.

I discussed this with RJ when the forum underwent a makeover. Threads are no longer merged since the prefixes take care of niche interest requirements. The prefixes are very convenient and how we're going to segregate the cctlds w/o creating separate sections for them, the 'advanced' search in the forum has a way of searching by prefix - you can also use the links below

US ccTLD Discussion - NamePros.com
IN ccTLD Discussion - NamePros.com
ME ccTLD Discussion - NamePros.com
CA ccTLD Discussion - NamePros.com
etc

There are around 250 cctlds atm, around 30 gtlds and 100s more on the way, creating a new section for each would really not be feasible or even desirable. Extensions that have tried to run domain forums on just the 'strength' of that particular tld have in a way been counter productive and led to the 'demise' of the interest in that tld from what I can see. This is a good workaround and leads to a more simplified access for users.

I don't mind that .US doesn't have it's own forum/thread, but it seems odd that there is separate forums for .MOBI and .TV which have only declined in popularity. Why not create a GTLD thread to put .MOBI and other GTLD's in, and put .TV in the cctld section with the other CCTLD's . Doesn't that make the most sense?

It just seems like the forum has a invested interest to keep .MOBI and .TV in the spotlight? That's the only conclusion that comes to mind for why they remain on the front page, capitalized for all to notice more.

I wasn't going to post again in this thread, but a couple new issues have come up:

1) RJ posted in #38 of this thread that there is a ccTLD forum and also "a general Domain Discussion forum where .US can currently be discussed". However, moderators seem to shunt any .US posts out of Domain Discussion and into the ccTLD graveyard. For example, this thread was posted in Domain Discussion, generated numerous replies, and then was silently moved by someone to ccTLD. If .US can indeed be discussed in General Domain Discussion, that should be made more clear to the mods.

2) A number of mods have posted that we should just use the tagging system and find .US threads with this link. But that approach misses all the threads which users don't correctly tag. For example, the GoDaddy .US prices thread I just linked to (the one moved away from domain discussion) does not show up in that search. If the mod had moved it to a dedicated .US forum like we used to have, the thread would be easy to find.

My feeling is that some ccTLDs are much more popular than others, and deserve their own forum. If even .TV clears that bar, I certainly think .US does.

I think you're missing the point here. Popularity of a ccTLD is not a parameter for having a separate section on NamePros, what is important is activity within that forum. If popularity was the only parameter, .de and .co.uk would deserve separate sections before .us was even considered.

As for threads being moved from Domain Discussion, thats because people try and post there for instant attention, not because the thread needs to be there. The thread you mentioned is a Godaddy discussion, not even a .us discussion per se.

Afaik ccTLD discussion is where all .US specific discussions should take place, I'm also all for keeping ccTLD sales threads in the dedicated section provided for it too, pretty pointless having all these specific sections otherwise.
