Appraisal section suggestions

Hello,

Recently I observed that the appraisal section is getting worse, and I think that many fellow NP'ers saw this.

I believe it is under moderated, and so many people that used to spend much of their time valuing other domains, now don't do this anymore.

It is very annoying to see people wanting appraisals, and the thread title is something like premium domain to appraise" just to find out that the domain is a fresh reg non .com. If members know the domain is "premium" (how much I dislike this word), then they already have a concept of what that domain should be worth.
Also, it is pointless to post for appraisal a website, and not include traffic for example.
In this way appraisers just lose interest to spend their time with these kind of names.

People still ignore the rules, they get offended by appraisals, and frankly I feel like I am wasting my time sometimes.

Maybe a new rule should be introduced: to put the domain in the thread title. I know this would not resolve all the problems, but at least it would help.

Some months ago, when I joined Namepros, I found the appraisal section, one of the most valuable resources one could find about domaining.

I am not too smart enough to propose some measures that should be taken in order to relaunch the appraisal section. But something has to be done. Maybe separate moderator for that section, and maybe a format of the appraisal, like in the domain for sale section.
And that form should contain mandatory the:
- domain name
- registration price (in case of cctld's)
and optionally the:
- year registered
- OVT results with and without extension (or wordtracker maybe as OVT is outdated),
- traffic (if any)
- acronyms for LLLL's
- anything you might find also relevant like other tld's registered, etc

This would save a lot of time, and more members would contribute to the section, as now in order to make a decent and correct appraisal, it takes me a lot of time researching these info's. In the case the thread starters should research all this information:
1. It would decrease the number of pointless threads
2. It would increase the number of answers, and thus the satisfaction of members.

When it comes to domain resources, Namepros is the best forum. Let's do something so that the appraisal forum will increase in popularity.

I am waiting for other suggestions too.

- Alex

PS for mods and admin: I don't know if you saw, but the appraisal section has generally the most guests. If quality increases there more members come here :)

We've had many, many suggestions for the Appraisals forum, but I found this one one of the most interesting and simple. In my opinion, it would make it easier for appraisers to appraise the names, and I'm with you on the word "premium".

The appraisals section is a good example of something that stays alive by users. To keep the balance, I try to stick to the rule that whenever I post an appraisal, I appraise five other domains. In a perfect world, if everyone did this, each appraisal would receive at least five replies.

I also agree that there is a huge lack of information for the most part in that forum. Requesters need to provide history and traffic stats of the name, and whatever else they can, while appraisers need to do research of their own (which they don't HAVE to do, they're volunteering).

Interesting suggestions...
