So has anyone else heard of Ubuntu?

Its a new type of linux out. It looks real nice from the screenshots.

Anyway, the really nice point is the fact that they ship the cds to you for free. Its not a scam either. I got friends that recieved it already. They actually prefer you order large amounts and hand them out to friends because it saves them on postage.

I just ordered 20 copies. 10 for pc, 5 for powerpc and 5 for AMD64

Ubuntu is -okay-, but there are other linux OS's much better that it....

I got told linux isn't for me because i don't want to enter a stupid root password everytime i want to install/update etc. Well why should i have to...you don't in windows, skyos and many other os's.

I admit I don't know much about Linux but I'd hate to have to give up some of the apps I run to check it out...

I've seen Ubuntu in action.
It is a very nice-looking interface with tons of options. However, it will take quite a bit of trial & error to get things right, so I would only recommend it if you really like tinkering around with operating systems.
