Hi
Was just wondering if one could register a domain with a typo and redirect it to the actual website to earn affiliate commission
eg - gotometing.com or gotomeetin.com

GoToMeeting mother ship LogMeIn co-branding policy includes this statement: "Do not register a domain containing any of our marks or logos, or any similar variations of them, if it could make people think that we provide or support anything covered from that domain."

National Arbitration Forum case 1502221 is an example of what happened to someone who violated that policy.

Good luck!

Nope. Infact, it is a bad practise.

No.

1) It will get you a letter from a lawyer and possibly more.

2) It's 2019 (the time of links and bookmarks) and while type-in traffic has dropped considerably, typo-traffic is virtually a thing of the past. i.e. the financial payoff is nil.

Not worth the efforts, imo.
You should rather develop a content based website on a more generic domain name, with affiliate links towards the main sites.

The money is in that domain name which was registered before any association with it became popular.

If very good typo and popular website than worth it, if very huge traffic

the opportunity cost of even a semi-huge traffic wwwdomaining.com for example could pay-off if combined with other like 99 or more! ( typo domains)

so a key for me in wwwdomaining was to visit alexa and find worldly availables like indonesia = 4th most populous country with new sites ranking + fortunately away with WIPO :) nationalist stakeholding..

risk/benefit instead of cost/benefit i learned in 1998 gradschool after social work.

traffic domains you get tomorrows rather than brandables which hoping on liquidity & are usual one-time beneficio mo.

(as a domainer 20+ years struggle, you gotta be in it to win it, finally garnered one best domain making my journey entirely worthwhile..)

The only real way these days is a bit deceitful eg google is hoohle or some other brand typo. Getting a generic type name might help with UK and US English common typos with some experience banking on a dot com on end although these won't help much if used as a search as google will auto correct misspelled words. Only a handful of gems really with these. It will take some high searches to make a profit for a generic and a bit of deception or simple luck to pick up traffic from some ones brand. (Some brands folder structures are begging to be branded as well eg msn/webmasters/live is just busting to be branded as webmaster live) There may be other ways to look at brands besides trying to lift traffic that way.

VERY respectfully submit that messing w/ trademarks and big companies is not a profitable pursuit.
On the bright side, it's innovative of you to think of the idea in the first place. That means you're demonstrating above-average intellect.

Imagine how you'll do when you brand YOU, or find ways to create branding for people you may encounter. We also register misspellings, but only of dictionary words that are desirable. Two reasons for that:

#2) People DO commonly type misspellings

#1) Search engines now correct their misspellings! Wow and wow, it means that if we type "hamburgurs," google automatically brings us to the same page that "Hamburgers" gets... provided the site is meta-correct in terms of basic design, and has good backlinks.

Not worth the risk. There are way better methods such as flipping.
