Hi,

i recently had an issue with a friend wanting to get my domains that just expired, but finnaly it got all screwed, even though i asked GD to cancel the domains from my account...

Even after the cancellation, WHOIS still said "Registrar Lock" so no one could actually get the domains. However, i recently searched WHOIS adain to find that some 3rd party got them... That wouldnt suck that much it they werent for a non-profit project...

Any explanations on this? :( :( :(

If you let a domain registered at godaddy cancel, it reverts to godaddy to be able to sell it through their tdnam.com auction site. If nobody bids on it there, it would go into the regular drop cycle, and could be picked up by any of a dozen more drop catching services. Only if none of them get a buyer will it actually drop for someone else to register. Even then, someone could still beat your friend to hand register it if they were watching the dropping domains lists.

The only way to insure where a domain goes is to renew it and transfer it to whom you want.

Your biggest mistake was asking GD to cancel your names, all you had to do was renew and then push them to your friends account, I often renew expired domains long after they actually expire.
