It has been around 24 hours since I attempted to transfer a domain from GD to Dyandot. Did the usual authcode copy paste and then went back to domain manager to expedite the transfer by clicking on the approve button. Transfer has been put on hold it seems as I am getting the following notification.

My domain has GD appraisal of around 7500 plus. So is this some kind of security mechanism that kicks in if anyone tries to transfer a domain that is a bit high value ? I have never come across this hurdle earlier so I am just trying to understand what is happening here and if I am about to face any issue. AFAIK transfers should be hasslefree.

I sent an email to the mentioned email id yesterday and have yet to receive a response.

sidenote - the domain has already been automatically removed from afternic as soon as I opted for the transfer.

@GoDaddy Could you please look inot the matter and release the domain as soon as possible. I am sending my customer number to you via private conversation.

why not spare yourself wasted time and stress and not have names there? gd with prices and ui ranks maybe 20th. why commit suicide by not going eith the other 19 options. preferably one of say top3..

The names I have are mostly those won in the auctions. I dont mind the UI but the prices are high for sure.

Never had this issue, but I'm guessing it has something to do with your whois privacy or whois contact information. If you haven't confirmed your whois contact details, or it was recently won at auction usually there is a waiting period.

No, it's not based on that. In the referenced thread above, Joe explained a bit (but not all) about their sercret algo to determine this.

The issue with not being able to transfer-out when whois privacy is still on, is another issue with another warning:

ANY domain with a godaddy appraisal of 5000 or more gets this treatment. At some point you will receive an email from the transfer team that you need to reply to. You will reply and nothing will happen. In 5 days, the transfer will complete.

It would appear that the most illogical explanation, tends to be the most likely when dealing with certain registrars.

yes sometimes for high value names this happens, happened with me as well some time ago.

What I find upsetting, is domains are *really only worth the registration cost to a registrar. The fact they have automated appraisals and make it difficult for domain owners to transfer out domains because "they think" they could be valuable to them in the future means only one thing. They have their eyes on YOUR domains, and they want to stay in control of them. They obviously could care less if your $2500 appraised domain gets stolen. It's only the valuable ones, even though registration cost to them is the same.

Domain was won quite a few months back. But yes I put the privacy to off before transferring to another registrar. So its possible that action might have triggered the "high risk" domain transfer.

BTW .Have not recevied any response yet.

I read the prompt and removed the privacy. Still the domain is stuck

I've had this happen a few times.

From my understanding, it occurs when the previous owner added an additional layer of security to the domain, where any transfer requires manual authorization. Since the domains were on GoDaddy and won through their auction, the protection stays active on the domain name even though ownership changes.

When you contact support/your rep, they will have the Transfer Assurance team send over an authorization email asking you to confirm it is okay to release the name. Once that is done, you'll be able to transfer it normally.

I still wonder what happen or who is in control of a domain which I try to buy from Afternic at 1000K USD and it got canceled/refunded, will be watching it behind the scenes.

Hi @Primary Names,
As others have mentioned, we have an additional layer of protection for higher value domain transfers. This provides added (free) security by requiring you to authorize the transfer out. Once your authorization is received and processed, the transfer will proceed as usual.

Emailing the [email protected] team is the right step, and they will process your transfer authorization as soon as possible.

We will follow up with your DM to chat further, though.
