Tim Bonehill of Afternic... legitimate?

In the last few weeks I've received many emails daily from Tim Bonehill asking me to verify domains which never had belonged to me. Is this a scam or what? I want to unsubscribe but the unsubscription link doesn't go to afternic.com

I have no idea if the emails are genuine but I do know that Tim Bonehill is the customer service manager for Afternic.

I received similar email recently.
They sent me a excel format attachment and ask me to verified the domains which is include in the excel sheet. However, such domains are belong to me and can be verfied by whois.

Yes I have worked with Tim several times. Afternic is sending emails out to verify domains that are in your Afternic account. I have got at least a couple and both times mainly included domains that cleared a whois check but I still got the email. Many of the domains "in question" were domains that I closed so not sure why they asked me about those. They do not give you an option to Delete a domain, only close it.

I had one listed there that I bought just recently, the previous owner had not deleted the listing before pushing to me. This is a useful exercise, it avoids then trying to sell domains which are not for sale.

I'm surprised that people are only having a few of these emails. I get at least one a day, since the beginning of April. The unsubscribe address is at the domain MKT32.NET registered at Mark Monitor. Since most of the domains listed have never belonged to me, I want to unsubscribe, but wary about the link provided.

Still no comment as to whether it's safe to unsubscribe to a non-Afternic mailing list. Why would they do that?

I got these emails as well. Those domains do not belong to me. I think it is safe to reply. But why don't they check the whois first?

Afternic Inventory clean up

Tim Bonehill here at Afternic. Yes, this exercise is an effort to purge old listings and provide a cleaner portfolio for all our members. We ran whois contact records vs the contact records we have on file at afternic, and whenever the two didn't match we flagged the domain for review. The overwhelming scenario we are running into is previous registrants having the name in their portfolio but not actively listed for sale. As mentioned above, members unfortunately have not had the capability to delete their listings...they can close them, but closed domains remain in our inventory. That delete functionality will be released in the upcoming weeks, as well as frequent and automated checks against whois records.

Really glad they're finally adding the ability to delete listings. What's weird is I accidentally let my Afternic membership expire several months ago, yet I still got a lot of these emails also.

Hello,

The unsubscribe link was set specifically to these registration compliance emails. Therefore, you wouldn't receive any more registration confirmation emails if you were to unsubscribe. The link should work just fine.

If you would like to unsubscribe to everything (including marketing communications etc.) I'd be happy to process that for you, just send me a note at [email protected] and I'll relay the information to the various departments here at Afternic.
