How much would you say SpecialOffers .com (+.net + org) is worth?
Every store has them and every buyers wants them. Never go out of style.

Name only

True, but the value also isn't determined by what I or you think about it. Supply, demand and luck.

If a name is placed on an auction and if the auction receives a lot of publicity and bids then it's probably more accurate than someone's guess on a forum.

Yet you sit here and belittle people who think it's worth less than what you believe it to be worth.

According to what you just stated, neither of our opinions or relevant.

So why not auction it off at no reserve and see what's "fair?"

I a not belittling anyone, merely offering my opinions in response to other people's opinions. We're all offering OPINIONS and no one is losing any sleep over it. I certainly am not.

I have followed and have been engaged in domaining since 1996 so I may know something. I could've registered a lot more names back then, but I could've also just skipped it entirely so i didn't do that bad. IMO they are names you can buy and hope that one day a Chinese investor will buy for a $1 million or names you can start a business right away with it.

Once again it depends whether you target end users or investors and we need to specify as it may be a 500% difference.

As for what's fair, it depends on who is there. A lot of times it's just luck. I have been offered $500 to start for names that ended up being sold for $xx,xxx to the same person.

Yaaaaaaay, $85K so the domainer /buyer can resell it for $350K. No thanks.

Oh dear, I think someone may be overvaluing their domain.

If it sold today for $350,000 it would be the joint 15th biggest public domain sale of 2015. Do you think that's realistic?

Its a great domain, but its a five figure domain.

Maybe so, but IMO a real price (not a domainer's price) is based on money making potential. Looking at the sale list you mentioned erectiledysfunction .com sold for $250k and CurrencyConverter .com sold for $150K so someone saw potential there. Maybe they made a mistake, maybe they didn't. Buying .com then sold for $70k. Buying what? But whoever bought it saw something.

This name as a keyword it's extremely popular and can be adapted to a lot of fields. However, the ultimate value isn't what estibot or we say, its what the buyer pays.

So again, why are you asking what we think? It clearly doesn't matter to you. Seems like you want people to stroke your ego.

You've answered your own question.

The industry for blue pills is worth a huge amount of money. Although I think the seller got a very good price for that domain.

Whilst your domain is as much a brandable as it is an EMD.

I really like your domain. I don't know how much you paid for it. But I just don't see why anybody would pay 6 figures for it in the real world.

If somebody wanted to start a groupon type site then why would they burn six figures of their investors cash on a keyword domain which would add minimal added value, when they can go for an actual brandable.

If you want me to say that people very very occasionally people pay six figures for domains worth five figures, then yes sometimes they do, is that what you want to hear?

You are clearly put out by people saying that your domain is worth five figures. Can we assume therefore that you are realising that you yourself have overpaid for this domain? Says on the 'about' page that it recently changed hands.

How much did you pay? Sorry if you've been burnt.

If that isn't the reason for your obvious frustration, then can we assume that you were here to drive type in traffic to your live monetised site, because it certainly doesn't feel like you were here to listen to peoples opinions.

Ultimately if you are convinced of this domains great money making potential then develop it. If you think this domain makes a business then build that business.

If you think this domain can add $350k in value to a business then prove it, by developing it, making it profitable, and then selling the site as a profitable ongoing concern on the strength of its historic earnings.

People pay a lot of money for income generating assets.

Personally I think the plural is way more valuable, book .com vs books .com.

Debatable, you wouldn't books a table, or books a flight, or books a hotel, or books a taxi.

You'll have to ask Barnes & Noble how much they paid for them.

Shane that sold a domain for $10,000 and went telling that story to everyone that would listen is accusing someone of having an ego :). Come on Shane, drop it. We're having a discussion, opinions vary and it's clear that there's no set price. No one is seriously asking what estibot thinks so valuations are going to differ.

Schilling is holding BestDeals .com for USD $1,000,000. Maybe he'll sell it if he waits till the right moment, maybe not.

So again, why are you asking what we think? It clearly doesn't matter to you. Seems like you want people to stroke your ego.

I was asked to share my story. So you can think what you'd like.

Once again, comparables do not prove inherent value.

I own 23189uio32jwe.com and am asking $10,000,000.

Does that prove a thing?

There Will always be a "bit-of-ego-stroking" for Domains that may have "Missed-the-boat" And I think it's easier for the ol'hands to understand We all took a chance with our initial investments (I only go back to 1999/2000 but I did put in thousands) However, I've always struggled to understand any present Animosity in domain investments. We all played to our Strengths (Mostly learnt as we went along) And of course some got things Right - Some didn't. (that applies to word relevance/resonance of market value etc etc) . Holding-out has never been my game - but equally I've witnessed some brilliant EXPERT Market awareness for forward sales. Yes I do think this particular domain has missed its best boat - but why bite at it ??

If this was sold a while the money would have been spent already ;) so there's a silver lining. Also the name was used and made money since the "best boat" days, even if those days are really gone (yeah in 2000-2001 this would have been sold for a lot more!) . As I said several times, people need to chill out and not go into grandiose statements, assuming they're the last word in domains. Newbies that has some minor success usually do this. I have gotten emails from many pros with very careful worded appraisals, taking into account end users, timing, luck etc etc.

A good domain in a field that can make excellent money has quite a bit of value. The name alone has resale value so at worst you lose only part of your investment. "Special offers" aren't going out of fashion anytime soon, bitcoin related domains and Chinese interest in nnnnnnnnn names might.

And the funny ol'thing, even as recent as 1999 I couldn't convince, just about anyone including computer techies (it was definitely good money banked). There nothing wrong in holding-out, However somebody Miss-reading a market with the relevant business acumen is unforgivable - (same as real-life)

Not really sure how nostalgia about early domain investors is particularly relevant this thread, as the 'about me' page on the website states that it has recently changed hands, he's acquired this recently. It was the previous owner who had it since 1996.

I myself have a name for sale, registered in 1997.

Is it the one in the thread title? Or is that point irrelevant to the topic?

Thanks for that Pug, I misread the earlier negative comments, as being probably due to 'Over-hold' . There's clearly far too much work to being active on domainboards (with integrity) for me.
Comes with age ;)

Not many talk about .com, net, org ownership without being the original Cherry picker

anyway, wanted to let you know that I've registering and holding domains for a while.
But I don't think this fork adds to the discussion.

I'm closing this thread so thanks for the appraisals guys.
