How can anything destructive and cruel be about bettering humanity?

Humanity is a word, a collective mind, a way of thinking...

"compassion, brotherly love, fellow feeling, humaneness, kindness, kind-heartedness, consideration, understanding, sympathy, tolerance, goodness, good-heartedness, gentleness, leniency, mercy, mercifulness, pity, tenderness, benevolence, charity, generosity, magnanimity"

What are the greater goals? Being more selfish and greedy?

Business is business right? Capitalism has nothing to do with "humanity".

How can actions speak in bettering humanity within? It's a mindset. The capitalist mindset is self-interest selfishness and greed.

What does gold, owning tons of houses, human slaves, or even trading shrunken heads have to do with humanity?

The only thing that stopped the trade in e.g. 'shrunken heads' was religion and governments banning it. Capitalism turned 'spiritual warriors' into mindless greedy demons.

Governments had to ban the chemicals to stop the hole in the ozone layer getting worse. Luckily it wasn't due to oil which makes some greedy selfish people extremely rich and therefore powerful, otherwise there wouldn't be an ozone layer at all right now.

Having said that, I agree that control is not the solution. There is just not a solution. There is only one outcome.

I'm not a fan of the Catholic Church but many, many good people working to serve humanity are Catholic.

Of all the people criticizing Mother Teresa, how many have spent any time living with and feeding the truly poor and sick?

When was the last time you read about an Atheist living their life to serve unprivledged poor? Attending charity dinners doesn't count.

WOW.... Atheist Penn Jillette hates Mother Teresa that much? What harm has she done to humanity to deserve such hatred? On the other hand, Penn seemed quite sympathetic towards Muslims in the previous video you had put up on the previous page.

I'm trying to figure out what good has Penn and Christopher Hitchens brought to humanity, to make them feel so arrogantly superior to Christians and to treat Mother Teresa like sh*t?

It really is so easy to say the worse stuff imaginable about Christians and especially Catholics, knowing offhand that they will not retaliate... good to know, isn't it?

Even though George Carlin also hates Christians, at least he's very funny and I love him.

The difference between a republic based on law and a monarchy based on loyalty. We have elections, they have trials.

You apparently don't know many atheists. Religion is not a prerequisite for caring about and serving those less fortunate.

Some talk religion and could less about helping those in need.

Exactly, there are people who constantly talk of Christian values but do nothing to uphold them, quite the opposite.
Don't preach what you are not prepared to practice.

Yup. An you can follow the ethical underpinnings common to religions without being a believer in the dogma. Two different things.

Two of the top philanthropists in the world are agnostic - Warren Buffet and Bill Gates.

Not everyone in the world is cut out to be in the trenches, but religion doesn't corner the market on being kind and helping others in need.

Ahh.. Rich people, giving money. Okay, now name ONE athiest who has LIVED THEIR LIFE to serve the poor.

BTW, Protestant's combined spend more money on charity that Warren and Gates combined.

** No trouble finding Atheist like Penn, Teller, Bill Maher criticizing religion or people who serve others. Would like to know what they've done for humanity.

There are atheists who volunteer all around the world. They don't get much press, and they don't seem to ask for it either.

BTW, Protestant's combined give more money to charity that Warren and Gates combined.

So? You're comparing many people to the contributions of just two people. Is there something "wrong" with someone who makes a fortune setting up foundations and giving back? Because there are religious billionaires who give a lot less.

Most of 45s claimed donations to charities never happened. But he doesn't seem to claim to be religious either...

Exactly what point are you trying to make, anyway?

India rejects Albania’s claim to Mother Teresa’s remains
India has rejected an Albanian claim to Mother Teresa’s remains because she was an Indian citizen, a government spokesman said on Tuesday.

Albanian Prime Minister, Sali Berisha, was reported to have said on Saturday that his government was in negotiations with India for the return of Mother Teresa’s mortal remains to Albania in time for her birth centenary in August 2010.

Born Agnese Gonxhe Bojaxhiu to an ethnic Albanian family living in Skopje, Macedonia, Mother Teresa went to India as a Roman Catholic nun in 1929 when she was 18.

In 1950, she founded the order of the Missionaries of Charity in the eastern Indian city of Kolkata, where she lived, running hospices for destitute old people and orphans, until she died in 1997.

Why would a big guy like Penn Jillette who says in his own words "I'm six-foot-seven, 300 pounds" need to bully and insult the memory of a "five foot tall, skinny 115 pound old woman" that died 20 years ago, didn't harm a fly in her life and dedicated her life to the poorest of the poor in the streets of Calcutta?

At least the Indians recognize her lifetime compassion and care to their own downtrodden.

Nice googling there. Which proves my point, you can't name one Atheist.

Right.. #45. A man who has ever done anything he needs to ask forgiveness for. Great example .

You.
Name some "mother Theresa's" besides mother Theresa. People who serve like that aren't publicity whores, so they are rarely known by name,

So to make some point(?) about "bad" atheists you take publicity ho celebrities instead of the millions of individuals who quietly live their lives being ethical, kind, and doing right by others.

Who said anything about "bad" Atheist? The people I mentioned have publicly slandered and generalized about Christians, Muslims and organized religion.

You can find bad apples anywhere. Why are you so defensive about obvious truths ?

Why are you so insistent on trying to find an atheist "mother Theresa?" It sounds like you believe as a group atheists are morally inferior.

As you said, a couple of bad apples ...

Might want to read up on the ethical movement of the 19th - 20th century and related topics... more representative of the views of most...
