Life in the military is extremely tough as it is, you live in close quarters sometimes even the best of friends get extremely angry with each other and fights were common, as tensions rise, I am sorry to say I was involved in a few, while I have never lost a fight sometimes I wish I had because nobody wins IMHO. On a ship you live and sleep, inches from your fellow shipmates for months at a time. I am glad I retired years ago. One thing I credit the military with is forced integration of the races, they did it better than most communities years before it was popular. In the Air Force we had surveys to detect racism, also evaluations, to see if minorities were promoted proportionaly with there peers, and a few times I saw officers lose their jobs when racism was detected. My point is the military is not like other occupations and you have to take the moral and wellbeing of the troops into consideration.
