I was on the debate team in high school and we never got marshmallow questions like political debates get.

Two ways to look at the whole nominee for the supremes thing:
They are doing their job.
Democrats seem to forget their hatchet job on BORK.
Or they should hold the hearings and then filibuster.

So what does the Constitution actually have to say about the matter? Not a lot: "[The President] shall nominate, and by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, shall appoint ... Judges of the supreme Court." The provision creates a power — and perhaps even a duty — in the president to make a nomination, but it does not give him a right to have his nominee confirmed or even considered. That power lies with the Senate.

It says they read the part of the constitution about congress not making laws to either establish a religion or prevent practice thereof and are not trying to force theirs on the rest of the country. And maybe some republicans are wising up. Or the Drumpf crowd was too mesmerized by the rhetoric and self-marketing to remember they cared.
