Republicans putting party first, ahead of country. Most polls show Americans blaming Republicans for this, they don't care. They bend over for some Canadian (Cruz) and the Tea Party nuts whose goal is to disrupt. Even many Republicans are getting tired of it, you can bet big business is as well. Since Obama took office, it was obstruct, get at him, whatever the costs. This plays well to their local Republican districts, might get them reelected. But Nationally, it fails. It will result in Hillary winning in 2016 when she runs.

Proust's In Search of Time has more words than all the books of the bible.

The whole system is falling. Democrasy has its flaws. In america the chosen representatives of the people are heading the country towards desaster.
The usd is at record high against our local currency(pkr). Fuel/electrisity/food prices are at record high. They are always on the rise. Once they go up they never go down. I think the whole paper currency concept is sham. It only makes the bankers rich.

I don't know that the system is failing, arguing generally turns out to be a good thing, in politics. 2008-2010 should be a good example of what happens without the benefit of opposition; greed kicks in, political agendas get priority over long term financially sound decision making, etc.

Most of this arguing, with associated compromise, should have occurred before the healthcare bill was signed into law.

You simply cannot expect to alter 1/6th of the American economy in partisan fashion and not anticipate discussion further down the road, not realistic.

Perhaps Proust lives as a political aide to Harry Reid?

So is that the point you were trying to make?

Or was the point that it wasn't enough and additional regulations were needed? I'm confused?

"Republicans have demanded, and Democrats agree to, an anti-fraud Obamacare provision to verify the income levels of Americans who claim health insurance subsidies."

Point? I would argue that a bill that requires thousands of new employees, millions of pages of regulations, billions spent in hardware and software infrastructure which will be subject to daily/weekly/monthly/yearly modifications and designed pretty much with one glove fits all options cannot possibly save money, which was one of Obama's primary selling points to his low information voter base. The photo was simply an example of the amount of regulations that one would need to read in order to understand the bill. So far.

I wonder who will be the first to edit wiki about those "prevented attacks"

I wish they had asked for a clarification when he said, "Only one or two." They should have said, "Okay, I have top secret clearance, please give me the specific instance, and demonstrate to me how it was only uncovered via the massive, unconstitutional data collection service you are in charge of."

My bet is that there was not a single instance uncovered.

"My bet is that there was not a single instance uncovered. "
such sentences are conspiracy theories, please stick to "facts" and the "truth" as stated in wiki.

Well, when he answers, "One or two instances..." He is being vague and not directly answering the question. My point was simply that I wish they would have made him specifically answer, "Well, was it one or two? Can you prove it to me?"

But Nationally, it fails. It will result in Hillary winning in 2016 when she runs.

Hillary was going to win regardless. Democrats played the race card to get Obama elected in 2008, now they will play the gender card. In 2024 they are going to have to start being creative or risk having to run on the candidates actual merit, maybe find an hispanic/female/lesbian/handicapped/android to elect.

( I can almost see Hillary's first campaign speech now: "Sure, I promoted a healthcare package that decimated your career options and pocketbook. Sure, I screwed up and got people killed at Benghazi. Sure, under my leadership foreign policy hit a new low worldwide as we became a laughingstock for our various debacles and missteps. Sure, as a democrat I supported Obama - our first black President - as he taxed you into the poorhouse. But............I'M A WOMAN!!!!! [ the crowd roars her name repeatedly as Springsteen belts out 'Dancing In The Dark' . The crowd starts singing with him, completely oblivious to the nuanced irony of dancing in the dark while supporting a candidate without actually knowing why they should support her. ] )

I don't think they played the race card so much, in fact, most were hoping Hillary would get the nod then, because they felt she had a better chance of winning, that America wasn't ready for a Black President yet. They played the Palin card. It was all the situations at once. Economy flat out tanking in Bush's last year, poor ticket on the right and history making if Obama won.

As far as gender card, yeah, it's another historic moment. And I do think it's a little harder going at a woman, because some of it will get spun that way. But then again, some natural sexism from the right will come out and used, just like it did at the recent GOP Republican Convention in California. There are going to be those kind of things/gaffes galore that will be used.

Also, what I said last year is happening. Just heard about a poll with 50% of Republicans look at the Tea Party as some separate Party. I think they just don't care, they would be happy to have the government still shut down just to get at Obama/Democrats, screw the country. Cruz is somebody they should shut down, he's more about himself, that's been pretty evident. They said this cost the country 24 billion, for nothing.

Well, that's what happens when you ram through a bill in partisan fashion that encumbers 1/6th of the economy. You will be forced to discuss the issue at some point whether you like it or not. If you want to lay blame for the 24 billion dollar expenditure, I think an argument could be made for laying it at Pelosi's, Reid's and Obama's feet back during the 2080-2010 period when Obama told the republicans it was time for them to sit at the back of the bus, and they rammed the bill through in partisan fashion. This is America, and you don't get to tell the minority party to shut up.

Not sure how long I am going to live, but I am pretty sure I will never live to see another republican President. With another entitlement rammed through, and illegal alien amnesty for millions of low information voters following shortly, American exceptionalism is over.

Don't jump, RogueWriter! Don't jump! Go home. Got to sleep. Get up in the morning and hug a tree. Tuck a leaf in your pocket and a spring in your step. Jog to your job, don't slog. Don't dwell on your coffee mug being half empty; get a refill. Leave work an hour early and visit an elementary school. Laugh with the kids, and go home with a smile on your face. Pop a Viagra and surprise your partner. Buck up, buckaroo. It is what you make it. Push the boat away from the dock.

Americans love having a split president and congress. So if the Republicans can take the senate in midterms and keep the house odds are a democrat will take the white house in 16 whether or not the candidate has a penis.

Debated about putting this forwarded email in the joke thread, but figured it belonged here:

Subject: $100 Bill

It's a slow day in the small town of Pumphandle and the streets are deserted. Times are tough, everybody is in debt, and everybody is living on credit.

A tourist visiting the area drives through town, stops at the motel, and lays a $100 bill on the desk saying he wants to inspect the rooms upstairs to pick one for the night.

As soon as he walks upstairs, the motel owner grabs the bill and runs next door to pay his debt to the butcher.

(Stay with this..... and pay attention)

The butcher takes the $100 and runs down the street to retire his debt to the pig farmer.

The pig farmer takes the $100 and heads off to pay his bill to his supplier, the Co-op.

The guy at the Co-op takes the $100 and runs to pay his debt to the local prostitute, who has also been facing hard times and has had to offer her "services" on credit.

The hooker rushes to the hotel and pays off her room bill with the hotel Owner.

The hotel proprietor then places the $100 back on the counter so the traveler will not suspect anything.

At that moment the traveler comes down the stairs, states that the rooms are not satisfactory, picks up the $100 bill and leaves.

No one produced anything. No one earned anything. However, the whole town now thinks that they are out of debt and there is a false atmosphere of optimism and glee.

And that, my friends, is how our Government works!
