I agree as long as they are 5.9 or less lol

I think i would get tired of an island life after 4-5 years and want to go back to the mainlan

Yea 5.9 quakes are nothing.
I have always lived in So Cal and I have ridden quakes out once in bed (6.7 Northridge Quake 1994)
Once sitting on the pot (5.9 Whittier Narrows earthquake 1987) lol
Oh and I completely slept through the 6.6 Sylmar quake of 1971

Shake and Bake Baby ;)

The '71 quake... I was living in Ojai.
I had snuck out my window and partied all night with my GF, crawled back in the morning and was just getting into bed when the quake hit.... I'm thinkin, man am I f'd up or what? :p

Then my grandfather starts knockin on my door sayin we're having a earthquake.... boy was I relieved, I thought I had really gone too far this time.

Not really funny then, but kinda funny now, looking back.

Cali Rules!!!!

Peace,
Cy

Really?

Here is the population of California -

Projected future growth -

Brad

According to the census people are leaving California; however, there are more people born than dying which offsets those losses.

To understand populations you need more than just raw numbers. The problem is that many tax payers, job seekers are moving to cheaper nearby states along with employers to find work or a more affordable life.

This is why I find the generic arguments for "this is not the Federal govt's problem but a state's problem" so dangerous. Each state is very different (and pretty much along party lines). Sometimes I wonder if the Commerce Clause won't be used to get some equality between the states - it's getting ridiculous when some states are offering too much incentive for people to leave other states. Then again, I'm not sure if that's even possible.

I'm sure some dope smokers will be moving to Colorado and Washington soon too.

The ones that don't impact you are easy to reminisce about. Most hurricanes don't do much - but then you get Galveston, Homestead and New Orleans trashed.

It will only take one wrong quake and the entire water supply for California will be a mess. The levee system is not very stable. They talk about 20 million + people not having water for OVER a year...

Guess you'll all move then. Maybe Canada, eh?

I'm not surprised (toxic) Texas is the #1 State corps. move to, from Cali, siting the "favorable regulatory and tax environment". Polluters follow the path of least resistance.

The higher cost of living in Cali also drove more poor, less skilled, workers, and immigrants, to other States like New Mexico, Texas, Colorado.

Not only have these factors reduced the burden on Cali ecosystems, but its turning Red states into Blue states, here in the west. Texas itself will soon become a "swing State".

This is a win-win situation, environmentally, politically AND economically, for California.

--California saw growth last year that was actually better than the U.S. โ€” 2 percent for Cali, versus 1.8 percent for the U.S.

--California also out-grew every country above it except Germany, China and Brazil.

The ongoing transition to a sustainable economy, with improving standards of living, is best suited to socially responsible companies. California is leading the way for the U.S., again.

The funny thing about those companies, taking the "path of least resistance" is after Texas its Mexico, then China, or wherever... in a "race to the bottom".

I heard the working title was:

Four Star General, Five Star Lover.

But seriously, who cares?

Heading towards a One Party System. So that's what you call going Forward? No wonder people are leaving California.

Accusing Democrats of "one party rule" is like faulting an ecosystem for one system governance;

Everybody has a stakeholder voice, and that includes species and the environment.

Black Friday Action.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2012/nov/15/walmart-walkout-action-black-friday

" said she had taken the decision to go on strike to protest the fact that she could only make around $14,000 dollars a year. Despite working as a customer service manager, she said, her family remained reliant on food stamps and other benefits. "I work full time at the richest company in the world," she said."

So how do we (collectively) fix this?

The obvious (liberal) answer is for Wal-Mart owners and shareholders to take the lead in being a model corporation that treats employees fair. However, that's not going to happen.

A second (liberal) answer is to co-join the minimum wage and the poverty income amount and set them at a number realistic for minimal living standards, say $20K per year. (Takes too long.)

A different approach is for the public to pressure Wal-Mart, either by not shopping or putting pressure on politicians to act.

All it would take is one person with deep pockets to launch an ad campaign about this with a course of action, and many people would come aboard and it would snowball. Wal-mart would panic.

Change to a system where top paid employees can only earn a % amount more than the lowest paid employees. For example, if the lowest paid employee makes $10k per year, the highest (CEO) makes 100 times that, or $1,000,000.

Wal-Mart employs 1.3 million people, albeit most are working for peanuts to give the millions to a few.

Thanksgiving is too close now, though. Nothing will happen.

Have been watching the election with fascination... random question.
I've heard lots about planned reforms to the immigration system, but what would this mean for someone like me looking to emigrate from the UK? Thought you politics bods might be able to shine some light on whether there are any planned wholesale changes on such immigration policies or whether the main changes are to do with 'domestic immigrants' and their offspring.

Just listen intently on what is being said during the US presidential campaign and then you will know precisely what will occur once than individual is elected. It will be the exact opposite.

Retail stores now compete with internet shops. The reality of global shopping economics does not bode well for U.S. retail workers, who, by comparison, are amongts the top earners in the profession.

Wal-Mart thrives by deploying 'Big Box Store' economies of scale. Workers need to mimic 'Big Box' economics, and adjust their lifestyle.

Just as the 'old lifestyle' was powered by the old wages, a new lifestyle must be fashioned around the new wages.

Families will need to co-habitate on home rentals. Individual workers need a roommate co-op. Instead of 15 people driving 15 beaters to work, a shift ride-share network is needed.

The collective function of Unions needs to expand beyond work actions to now include 'life actions' on behalf of retail workers.

If collective lifestyle adjustments are not made the Ma & Pop retail worker may go the way of the Ma & Pop shop, in its battle with Wal-Mart. As automation would replace workers, to maintain profit margins.

Retail workers simply do not have much wiggle room, as margins are tight and auto-check-out stations have a fixed cost, don't strike, need benefits, or even lunch breaks.

Here's a head scratcher .... below is just a fraction of the list of wars the USA either declared or took part in as military actions. The list is just some of the most popular / known 10%. Maybe next election we should consider trying an "Independent Party" for presidential office with there nice "0" wars track record.. of course, we've never really had an Independent in office before so naturally they score a 0 on the war scale.. lol .. just saying ... Maybe the controversy of such a suggestion could get a little momentum going 2016.. who knows, maybe an Independent can turn the economy around? .. .. lol

(Note: This post is meant simply to create some controversial debate. Even though the below list of wars was taken from historical documents that claim them as facts, you shouldn't take this post all too seriously since we all know documents can be inaccurate and that the Independent party will never actually have a shot against the deep pockets of republican or Democratic parties'.)

Watched the movie, Lincoln, last night. It was very good. Interesting to see back then the Democrats were (portrayed) like the Republicans today.
