It's much more complicated than that. NK is an embarrassing neighbor for sure. But it also has a useful purpose as a scarecrow.
China is the only country that has some leverage on NK, and it something that they are keen to exploit.

China is not so much interested in regime change, for a number of reasons. First it could mean a sudden, uncontrolled flux of refugees as soon as the gates open. Possible reunification in the long term is also unpalatable for China, if American troops are to remain on Korean soil. Then American forces would be at their border.
All countries have different goals and priorities, while alleviating tensions may sound like common sense and mutually beneficial, realpolitik works under a completely different set of rules.

I don't think we'll see a regime change but negotiations are all but over for NK.

The last threat Kim made was to "test" a real nuke over the pacific. That would have dire consequences for a half dozen nations. That was the last straw. Now It's give up the nukes or get out.

I'm pretty sure Jinping doesn't want a man made disaster on his border that could kill millions of people and destroy precious farm land. So will keep pressure on Kim.

NK wouldn't last five minutes under a full attack by USA, SK and Japan. China would have to sit it out or risk an economic collapse.

Just my opinion.

@DNWon

As she spins the story.

If you think I am “spinning the story”, then please tell us in detail exactly what role he has played in the talks between north and South Korea and the resulting Panmunjom Declaration. He wasn’t there, the US had no representative there, he has yet to meet with KJU.

Relations may have begun to thaw at or even before the olympics, where the two countries had a united team and their representatives seemed cordial to each other. While Pence sat right above (behind?) Kim Yo Jong and didn’t speak a word to her, and pointedly didn’t applaud the Korean athletes.

Sanctions were a push in the right direction, but sanctions by China had more direct influence.

If, as reported, the mountain where they’ve been testing has collapsed or is imminent dange of collapsing, that is the most logical explanation for them backing off any outward display of their nuclear program... for now. As Kate said, those nukes are still their insurance policy.

Even if there’s peace between the countries, people from them won’t be freely associating - NK has too much invested in decades of propaganda to let any free ideas mess up “a good thing.”

Last month you were talking about how stupid President Trump was for agreeing to meet with Kim.

have you seen this?

I read about that a few days ago, and watched Comey lie his ass off in interview after interview last week about how his leaked classified Presidential notes, were like a personal diary even though he was talking to the President in an official capacity, working for the FBI and left a copy of those notes with the FBI as well. That's some diary there Jim! It's a such a shitshow of a fabricated witch hunt, it's hard to imagine he won't be charged with something!

So the President of South Korea saying President Trump deserves a Nobel Peace prize means nothing to you? Is it impossible for you to put your Trump hate aside for just one minute? It's blinding you and making you look very silly!

You didn't answer the question...

He hasn't met with anyone yet and I still think he's out of his league if he tries to go it alone.

Six months ago, NK was threatening to explode a nuclear bomb in the Pacific Ocean. Last week, NK and SK agreed to end their war and NK will dismantle their nuclear program.

As I said earlier, Kim overplayed his hand and motivated Japan, SK, USA and China to eliminate that threat.

If it was bad when candidate Trump did it, it's bad now.

When you roast someone, they are supposed to be in on the joke.

Obama roasting Trump was hilarious. Trump and Bush being self-deprecating was also funny. Colbert attacking Bush flopped because it was motivated by hate. Wolf was motivated by hatred and wasn't funny.

A lot of liberal journalist are upset b/c the WHCD was supposed to raise fund for scholarships, not tear people down.

Understand?

I actually agree with your post, but you're responding to something I didn't say or didn't read it right. Roasting is hard to do for most people, there is a line. Like you said, Obama is good at it, some people aren't.

It's funny people already forget that during the election they had some type of dinner like this where both Hillary and Trump were at, and many felt Trump was going over the line. They were ok with that but when tables are turned, they hop on the internet and cry about it.

Nearly everyone was appalled over the nasty, vile insults ‘comedienne’ Michelle Wolf hurled at Sarah Huckabee Sanders during the annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner Saturday night.
The gutter ‘comedian’ even cracked a joke about abortion as the audience of liberal snakes laughed.

She was pointing out the hypocrisy of the right. Have a problem with abortion, unless they got somebody pregnant while cheating on their wife, then they're ok with it.

Yes... because Presidents negotiate treaties all by themselves.

You have no memory of South Korea President going to the Whitehouse and meeting with President Trump? Then President Trump agreeing in principal to meet with Kim Jung Un? Then you calling the President a fool for agreeing to meet with NK?

All this winning is taking a toll.

Nothing has been won. It's like you're celebrating something when nobody has crossed the finish line yet. This isn't the first time NK has talked about stuff like this.

I hope they find a conservative comedian next year or no comedian at all. Bush was funny, Obama was funny. The comedians never are.

Numerous countries are being considered for the MEETING, but would Peace House/Freedom House, on the Border of North & South Korea, be a more Representative, Important and Lasting site than a third party country? Just asking!

Looks like Netanyahu trying to cause trouble, wanting Trump to nix the Iran Deal. Trump will probably do it, since Netanyahu owns him as well.

Netanyahu, in a presentation explicitly targeting Trump, announces "Iran's Secret Nuclear Files", claiming to have stolen 55k pages and 183 CDs of files from a high security archive in Iran, documenting a pre-2004 nuke program. But only a few photos given.

Olli Heinonen, former IAEA head of safeguards (chief inspector) on Netanyahu briefing: "I just saw a lot of pictures I had seen before.. Some of the images that we saw I briefed to the board in closed session in February 2008.

Senate Foreign Relations Chairman @BobCorker tells Bloomberg TV that Netanyahu speech on Iran provided "nothing new" that wasn't already widely known

Kim. will. not. give. away. his. nuclear. weapons. Nukes are his insurance policy.

China. will. not. let. him. keep. them.

Since we are talking about my neighbor, my opinion is that he will get rid of them. But it it's also my opinion that China can't force his hand one way or the other - they don't have that much sway over him.

"Crazy" Kim has turned out to be a brilliant negotiator, and played to the weakness of both US and South Korean leaders. I am not sure that SK and the US could have played it all that differently. But rather than celebrate this new era of peace, we should at least realize we have been played. And I haven't seen any so-called journalist pick up on that. Maybe some anti-Trump corporate media shill will pick up on it, at least.

Peace is great, but imagine how history will look on this when the true horrors of North Korea come out after this regime's collapse (whenever that may be). The US has essentially stopped making any demands on NK except that they get rid of their nukes. All human rights complaints and other considerations just evaporated as soon as Kim started waving the nuke option around.

Meanwhile the South Korean president smiles and holds hands with the torturer of South Koreans' brothers, sisters and families just across the hills. It seems they have abandoned them, happy that there will be no war or disruption to their comfortable life in the south.

It's a difficult situation, with no good answers. But I wonder how future Koreas will look back on this when they are finally reunited. For the US, it's win/win, since concerns about human rights overseas have always been selective and based on politics. (And at home, for that matter.)

It’s one thing to speak like that among your buddies, it’s another to speak that way in front of an audience that includes the people you’re speaking about. Then it’s rude, unseemly, inconsiderate and uncalled for.

I'd rather see a vulgar buffoon in office with a vigorous opposition than a smooth-talking liar who can do anything he wants and still be fawned over by the press.

(And, incidentally, the p*ssy grabbing tape was among his buddies. The difference is that the media corporation released the tapes, something they would never do to a candidate they support.)

Do people in the rest of the world realize this or is it their impression that he speaks for us all?

Most people around the world are far more politically sophisticated than Americans. If anything, Americans should be embarrassed at how easily their politicians play them off against each other.

Porn star Stormy Daniels sues President Trump for defamation

Publicity Stunt. More TV appearances, more free publicity. They dropped out of the news so need to keep the hater party going. Next the lawyer will become a CNN legal analyst. And SD will keep selling strip show feature dance tickets. If you read the tweet, it never mentioned her name.

"A sketch years later about a nonexistent man. A total con job, playing the Fake News Media for Fools (but they know it)!"

No specific reference to her.

Read up on it.
