I feel like the massive drop in the overall stock market yesterday and the rise in the nonsense meme stocks is highly correlated.

It is just making a mockery out of serious investing.

Even outside the meme stocks some of the valuations are getting extremely bloated, especially for tech companies with no profits like Snowflake, Palantir, and darlings like AirBNB, Door Dash, EV stocks, etc.

I think some people are starting to realize we're at the peak of Mt. Stupid with some valuations.

The difference is that the government will take immediate action to put a stop to this and ensure only the elite can get away with it in the future, as they have been in the past. Last thing they want is an even playing field. The advantage of wealthy hedge funders is that they pay off politicians. The Redditors might not.

    I agree.

I am kind of torn on this because I am a serious investor, but at the same time I agree that the wealth inequality is unsustainable and don't mind seeing the little guys stick it to the big guys.

The market is stacked against the little guy.

The problem is at the end of the day, the majority of little guys are going to lose money. There will be a small amount of huge winners.

I agree 100% .... I think a lot of lower middle class folks see volatility as leverage.... extreme volatility brings the whales and sharks come out to make a lot of money IMO.... there are no fast bucks to be had right now with low to mediocre $$$ investments IMO ...

My feeling is they are grown ups, and should have the same right to invest as anyone. If the government is so concerned about people losing money in investments, why do they sell lottery tickets? Those are safer? Throwing a dart and buying the stock it lands on would be 100 times better than buying stacks of lottery tickets.

I agree. I am not for protecting anyone from themselves.

If they want to make a stupid investment. It is on them.

One small win for the little guy, well if you take your profits at some point. I really don't think HODL of a terrible stock is a good long term play.

The rich will always find a win in the end. They have the money, resources, opportunities, and privilege the average person does not have.

I would love to buy IPO shares at massive discounts before the public had access to buy them at inflated prices on the open market. It is pretty hard to lose in that situation.

well.... with lottery tickets... it gives people the right to dream for a while before the drawing .... the stock market can take it all in 60 seconds ... i just hate seeing people get hurt that don't really know what they are doing ... but are looking to make a dollar and extend themselves to the max

Yep... the end result... the rich will win for those that stay in to long with this.... or anything else for that matter ...everything has a price tag on it.. they can afford it to flip results in their favor every time

There are a lot of small investors with their only experience in the stock market coming during a pandemic, as things have gone up in value. A lot of this is just simply to do with Fed intervention and low interest rates, and bored people with nothing else to spend their money on.

You can easily buy into your own hype.

This meme stock is kind of poisoning the well for serious investment. I expect a lot of people, especially new investors, to be turned off by the stock market after this does not end well for them.

It is not just stocks, there are massive bubbles forming in markets like collectibles as well which are not going to end well.

I agree.... I just seriously hope a lot of people don't get hurt ... There aren't many people who don't seek just a bite of the pie ... that is normal behavior .... when people start getting hurt ... i start getting peeved because most of the time they are set up to lose their money .... it's not a level playing field

This is pretty much what bothers me about lotteries, and gambling in general. It's fine as a diversion. But too many people who can't afford it spend too much money on it. And the "dream" aspect makes them passive rather than active - meaning they stay poor.

It's especially bad, I think, when the state itself moves into gambling. The state that is supposed to serve the people instead becomes the casino owner that fleeces them.

You'll have to ask the Liberal Media, Big Tech and the Democrats... they reign over the USA right now!
