Hi

For this, let's assume that .tel will not be a total flop.

What type of keywords will be most valuable for this extension? Will it be geographical keywords, like newyork.tel, losangeles.tel, etc, or what else?

thanks frenchtel. it was cyberonyx's posting of that example a couple of pages back that made me go looking for it. i thought it was already available. that will be an interesting development.

You can have a look to a .tel ad here, but it's only an example.

Ad records are only accessible via Telnic APIs so far, so it will take a little time before appropriate developments will be performed ...
Is that a Photoshop job, or .tel's actual ad field placement?

I just noticed that the ads are plumbing related. If you remember, Monetelize also used plumbing in their forged Google results screenshot.

I would really love to see some of the sites that you have developed as you are obviously a very skilled developer.

What are you best projects as I really am keen to take a look as I would feel many others are, I have a feeling that they will blow us all away.

Look forward to seeing them

Regards

Gav

The Telproxy (.tel -> web proxy) doesn't yet have support to display the specified ad formats. That's of course coming soon. The ad formats were published before the telproxy support so that developers would have more time to work with.

Note that you can already publish ads into your DNS zones, they're just a specific format of a TXT record. For example, take a look at _ad.samples.henri.tel:
Web interface to Dig
Or use dig on the command line: dig _ad.samples.henri.tel txt

Once the Telproxy supports the ad formats, this ad will automatically be displayed under samples.henri.tel

One last point: the TelHosting control panel won't support ad management, that's not its purpose. I inserted the ad above using the APIs, but I suspect that ad providers will be doing something even simpler by providing an ad DNS server.

More details on advertising in .tel domains

Telnic just published a whitepaper for developers (PDF - 4 pages) with detailed info about advertising in .tel domains.

whitepaper for developers.dont understand it?

Sorry buddy, but that's your problem ... I'm fed up with endless and pointless discussions about .tel development/non-development vs .com/Web development ...

Live and let live!

i personally don't know much about programming or development and i still support .tel i don't understand why some people have to drag things so much, if .tel is a website or not it doesn't matter if we lose money or gain it shouldn't matter, because when we were investing no one ask for your suggestions and now when we have we would not want to lose or gain upon your comments/suggestions.

as i stated quite long time back its our decision to stick to .tel and if it floats and sails well and if it sinks oh well ( not going to happen thought ) i have over 145 .tel my self and i am quite happy about it.

there might be 3 things why many of you are upset

1) upset that they did not invest in time
2) trying to dodge people to get bargains
3) unsure of them selves and still living the in old days.

no1 said .tel is going to compete with .com neither do we believe that both have their
own way and level of understanding and presentation.

anyways all i can say is last but not the least :) if u cant be positive then don't be negative alot of people have investment money in .tel with good faith and they all deserve a smile then worry.

Thanks

Shahid

we have been promoting "plumbing" for 5 months now as our prime sub-domain selling example. I see your pain dubdub. the inclusion of an advertising model wont help you.

...wont help those who did not take up keywords at $10.

to telnic, and any ad-service middlemen.
photoshop. whatever. nice layouts, sure.
...but, I would like an even simpler layout.

ie, a simple, but obvious, "seperator line"

Fantstic S E O!

Wow.. How's this for S E O??

Just put VegasGirls.tel live about 2 weeks ago... filled out some info, and forgot about it. It is not really "developed", just in "experimental" stage. I put in a few sub-categories and that's about it. There are no links to anything, and no useful info yet... so, no need to point out the obvious to me about that.

The point is, in just a few short weeks it is climbing the ranks in Google... Still has a way to go for some categories.. But try typing in to Google Search... vegas girls brothels... #5 on page #1 out of 937,000 results! Or, try.... vegas girls ranches... #2 on page #1 out of 1,500,000 results!

Pretty impressive!

And now for the actual truth...

"vegas girls brothels" does not have 937,000 results. It has only 1, this very thread.
http://www.google.com/search?q="vegas+girls+brothels"

Same story for "vegas girls ranches". Not 1,500,00, but instead just 1. Again, this thread.
http://www.google.com/search?q="vegas+girls+ranches"

To make matters worse, Google reports zero searches for these terms.

So yeah, "Pretty impressive!"

I tried the search as saucey stated and it does appear his post is correct and the .tel are on the 1st page of google.

I was kind of concerned that I made a mistake so I had my 5 year old try it and yep she came up with the same results.

However my wife walked in and asked me why the ""LL I had my daughter typing in vegas girls ...I tried to explain.....

Don't know about you... But I have NEVER used "quotes" or the + key when searching on google... That's just me. If I want to google something,I type it in and hit search. So again, without quotes or any other "extras", type in .... Vegas girls ranches... Or ... Vegas girls brothels.. and you will see what I mean. :)

One slight problem. According to the Google Adwords Keyword Tool, nobody (aka very important real people searching google) does that. :gl: :p :O

My point is
1. It's a keyword string with zero competition. The quotes do matter when determining that.
2. Nobody is searching that phrase.

So the value is.... what?

You can take any page on the internet and play around with search strings until you find one that the page ranks high on.

This stuff has been gone over before in this thread.

You are missing the point. Anyone can register a weird phrase as a domain name and a few weeks after publishing it can type in the exact phrase and the page will appear on the first page of search results due to its uniqueness (or weirdness). That doesnโ€™t mean that the page is highly ranked or the phrase is highly searchable. IMHO.

Yeah that is pretty much dead one. It is not hard to rank well for a term with no competition.

You also need to use quotes when searching to determine the relevance. Otherwise you end up with completely irrelevant results.

Brad
