Hi

For this, let's assume that .tel will not be a total flop.

What type of keywords will be most valuable for this extension? Will it be geographical keywords, like newyork.tel, losangeles.tel, etc, or what else?

Alaska.tel sold for $1050.00 on SEDO was a bargain, I don't know if the buyer or/and seller is a NP member? Looks like that was the last .tel sold on aftermarket but I can't wait to see more .tel sales like alaska, it adds value to .tel extension even if it's not much because don't forget it's 6 months old.

Check out this segment from Asia Business Tonight: The future of Yellow/White Pages directories; .tel?

I also want to share this very thoughtful blog post with you. The discussion emanates from here and here. Be sure to read the comments too.

This is exactly what worldwide TV must do, promote .tel
I'm sure that singapore domainers will try to get .tel now if they have seen the interview.
And with all the naysayers that post recently, .tel is not the worse extension but something defferent than a .com, .mobi....

When talking to mobile directory or as contact, it is number one product of the year.

So we .TEL believers, keep on going, keep on posting, keep on promoting, keep on having faith B-)

Yeeyah, sure! It didn't happen with all the turmoil in the .mobi forum area, and it was pleaded and begged for! So, now that that area is slow over there, .tel is now the new 'eyeballs' bait! And just wait til 'highly brandable' returns from the crypt (or 'ward') to chime in! Heh!

Y'all have fun now!!! :hehe:

Hmmmm... Where is Jeff these days?? LOL!

BTW... Still happy I have Pages.tel and Listings.tel! Could be useful for Yellow.Pages.tel...

From a domaining perspective, that is exactly what you don't want. It's North America and UK or nothing.

Go ask Orkut (Brazil, India), Friendster (Asia), Hi5 (Asia, Mexico), etc... if they would trade their user bases for US and UK. Another angle to look at this from is the fact that MySpace, Facebook and Twitter usernames can and have been sold for novelty and marketing value because of who uses the services.

You want domains available that are exciting enough to a user base that can popularize it among their peers that have money to then spend on .tel's taken by domainers. A very bad scenario for domainers would be if .tel gained traction in less valuable countries that are unwilling to pay much more than reg fee.

Another tool is DomainTyper - Fast Domain Search which is at the bottom of the above page.

Thanks, what a great tool.

What I can say when search is that big names, companies, famous websites, good keywords... are all taken not only by domainers but their respective owner (end user). So in my opinion .tel is a winner!

What you describe are to be considered defensive registrations until these companies use their .tel's in marketing campaigns. Something several months in we still haven't seen one single meaningful case of. Not one.

It's certainly a winner for Telnic as long as they can sell defensive registrations and especially domainer investments. Has any other registry been in such close contact with domainers?

Anyone venture to guess what % of .tel's are owned by businesses and individuals who are legitimately using it? Through use and thus viral marketing this is the only group that can make .tel a winner for domainers.

That is correct. There is a big difference between an "end user" and a company who just regs a domain for brand protection.

I have a couple .TEL for the same reason, but have no plans to use them.

Fact is: if .tel wasnt an interesting tld, why would companies reg their domains? Scare of cybersquatters? Well, it's not just for protection, if it was this they will have to reg all tld's available on market but I think you're wrong they can sued these cybersquatters (wipo) if they want but the real reason is because they plan to use it lately or as soon as .tel will be more popular.

Many companies own their brand in virtually every extension. Buying a domain for $10 is much easier than worrying about the cost and effort of legal action.

When one of these big companies actually does something amazing with their .TEL then we can talk.

This would make the perfect Criss Angel TV Special as "Criss will attempt the most amazing stunt of his career" broadcast live from Las Vegas! Watch as he brings the .TEL alive with exciting fresh content. :D

Your seventh post is a wise post indeed. It's fun to play but sometimes expensive.

This is five (5) months after Tel GO LIVE!!

The future of dot TEL stills no clue. Most of every important features are just still developing.

If everything are still developing until next March ... Naahh, I would not imagine that!!

i went to the telnic site today looking for info on the ads we're now supposed to be able to put on our tels. couldn't find anything. maybe i overlooked it. anyone here putting ads on their tel pages yet?

You can have a look to a .tel ad here, but it's only an example.

Ad records are only accessible via Telnic APIs so far, so it will take a little time before appropriate developments will be performed ...
