Hi

For this, let's assume that .tel will not be a total flop.

What type of keywords will be most valuable for this extension? Will it be geographical keywords, like newyork.tel, losangeles.tel, etc, or what else?

http://nic.tel

302 Redirects

In the past, It was apparent that Google did not particularly favor 302 redirects in SEO.

However, it looks like Google may be readjusting its algorithm so as not to penalize primary site for this type of usage (Telnic*org)

The only advantage in redirecting from a .tel domain would be in creating more brand awareness & memorability.

Approximately 894 .tel's
and approximately 832 .museums
even with some duplicates in them.
In order to show you the most relevant results, we have omitted some entries very similar to the 894 already displayed.
If you like, you can repeat the search with the omitted results included.

I still cannot find how some .tel are indexed and some are not.
I am trying oik.tel with a large amount of text and top keywords to see how the spiders will treat it.
Those that are indexed and at the top of the list, seem to have a good text and link ratio. I am starting with only text and will give it a bit to see how it does. If that does not get it I will switch it to a combo of links and text.
I have found it is easy to get found by using a directory site that has the domain listed, but working to find out how to get included.
Dmoz is not taking .tel now it seems

Actually, if you took the time to get to know him, you would discover he has a good background in domains, a great portfolio and has good sales under his belt.

I really don't blame him for not sending you a PM. He's not applying for a job app with you. :D

Take the time to get to know someone before you judge them so quickly.

"He" has been judged by the way he has behaved on this thread--nothing more, and nothing less. Before this thread, I didn't even know this person.

Other people, albeit questioning the viability of .tel, have done so in a constructive and helpful manner. I welcome those people because we can learn from them. Others come here to mock and snark and offer nothing but a way to stroke their own egos.

I can't imagine why anyone would even want to create a forum about something he hates. If he thinks .tel is going to fizzle, then why bother? Reverse psychology? If so, I wouldn't be all that surprised if he's secretly stockpiling .tels, "just in case."

I have no interest in "his" cred.

:)

I could see this driving some visitors to a website or even, for this one, use an affiliate link to one of the weather pages mobile software programs.

I have been trying to add affiliate links to one of my .tel domains with no luck. I keep getting a message that says invalid url!
I came across another .tel owner who managed to put some affiliate links up but when he tried to add few more he then kept getting the same message as the one i mentioned!
Any idea how to solve this?

One question: do you have permission from the affiliate? In other words, is this a paying customer who wants the link?

If so, I'm not sure why the link wouldn't work. One thing you could do: check your link to make sure you don't have an extra space at the end or an incorrect symbol.

If all else fails, redo the link--sort of like shutting down your computer to reboot.

I am currently populating my .tel sites. The profile and keyword sections are resolving just fine, but the links, including the subdomains, are not.

Could this be related to riverrock's difficulty?

Is there anything going on with telhosting? Henri? Justin?

EDIT: Now it's resolving--just a little slow today.

Yes I do have permission.
I am an affiliate for more than a 100 online store, so am quite familiar with the links.
Am pretty sure that the problem is from the .tel itself. It would not recognize the link as a valid one.

As I said am not the only one who is facing this problem. There is another gentleman who is very experienced in domains and he managed to post few affiliate links before one day it started saying invalid url.
We both dont now what the heck is going on!
Am wondering if somebody came across this problem and solved it?And if so how? Thanks for the try anyway

Definitely strange.

I do not yet have affiliate links--only links to my own aftermarket site--but maybe I should check a few random links to see if they resolve.

Are you using tinyurls? If so, could that be the problem?

That might be the solution, I think I read somewhere in this thread someone was having problems with affiliate links. Often they are very long and the person had to use tinyurls to make them work because .tel only allows for URLS up to s certain length, if I remember correctly.

How will the search engines like that, though?

The problem is not the length of URLs but query strings - something that will be fixed in the next TH release.

I'd recommend avoiding tinyurl and other URL shortening services.

The best thing is that some tel developpers make a url shorten form and title link in telhosting panel so we just enter long url and it crush to something like My-title and redirects to the long url.

I agree with Plaggypig; I have no problem with my long URLs.

I think that credibility trumps the short URLs because a domain name and its subdomains offer the user some information about the site, whereas a tinyurl offers nothing.

After being led to a malicious downloader site via a tinyurl, I now avoid those sites.

I don't know, what I do know is google does not like a lot of affiliate links with little content.

Just to be clear about what the thread is about,
here is the first post!

It's not for mud slinging and name calling,
nor is it for self promotion.

It is for the discussion about .Tel
Stop posting the same links over and over and over - we get it!

I used to enjoy coming in to read what's going on as I have
some .Tel's also.
Now, unfortunately I have to come in everyday and see what
needs to be deleted or who needs a holiday!
It's a spamfest of repeated information and opinions and
it's taken the thread off track - enough!

Keep on track, share ideas - and if you don't like .Tel and
you have already voiced your opinion - then move along!

If you have a problem, PM me!
