For this, let's assume that .tel will not be a total flop.

What type of keywords will be most valuable for this extension? Will it be geographical keywords, like newyork.tel, losangeles.tel, etc, or what else?

cranston.tel is #43 in google for 'cranston' (5,180,000 results) was in 60's when first indexed. Also, subdomains are indexed. Should get top 10 soon.

I've started on a PHP + SOAP version to support directory management but am currently stuck. Have an issue reg'd at the telnic dev forum. I can make the code open source. Anyone else got PHP going?

Why goodaddy not sell .tel

GoDaddy probably wasn’t interested in .tel because it can’t sell private registrations or hosting services along with it, and those products offer much better margins than domain registrations.

Telnic are looking at ways to expose logs from the web proxy, but bear in mind this would only be a sample of all traffic, since some/most of it will come from applications/services pulling records straight out of the DNS.

Unfortunately, I don't think that it'll ever happen. I'm sure that a lot of seasoned domainers will agree with me.

I believe he is searching on cranston.tel not cranston ? A search on most XXX.tel will get on first page, but nobody searches that way. Takes time.

I have a similar concept planned. How do you plan on actually letting ppl create their subdomains? I want to use the TELNIC API/Soap to build an self-service interface as opposed to manual intervention.

I will keep complete control of the subdomains (as mandated by Telnic).

I won't be leasing a subdomain per se, but one LINK that will go where ever the customer chooses, whether another .tel (regged by the customer) or a regular website or even a phone number.

The customer will give me the link, and I will create the sub-folder and fill in the link myself. For more sophisticated cards, the cost per month will be extra, which is why it would be cheaper for the customer to simply reg another .tel and have the boutique link contain the customer's .tel address.

This model is dependent on the TLD taking off, which I think it will. The good first names are already pretty much gone and even common first name/last name combos are fast disappearing.

I won't be marketing subdomains, but memorable boutique addresses that can be placed on customers' business cards.

Never underestimate the power of vanity.

Think of the high-end perfume industry that takes ingredients that cost pennies to manufacture and puts them in fancy bottles and backs them with celebrity names, charging $50.00 and up.

Im in New Zealand and cranston.tel shows up at #86 for a total of 5.16 million on google in total (this is just the term 'cranston' alone)... not too bad I would have thought considering also that new zealand based sites regarding the term are coming up on first page before anything else globally.

Gotta be honest, this domain doesnt sound that marketable, but I hope it works for you. I registered airlineticket.tel but I should have probably gone for airlinetickets.tel or nothing in hindsight.
