Hi

For this, let's assume that .tel will not be a total flop.

What type of keywords will be most valuable for this extension? Will it be geographical keywords, like newyork.tel, losangeles.tel, etc, or what else?

Most people think this is another extension and it is not, and because of this
there are some great names open for registration.
I already have about 200 and when I run out of money and stop registering
I wil show you some of my names

Gotta be honest, this domain doesnt sound that marketable, but I hope it works for you. I registered airlineticket.tel but I should have probably gone for airlinetickets.tel or nothing in hindsight.

Marketing idea:

Yes, doesn't look that flash at first glance. But what if the emphasis was placed on the "the":


THEairline.tel or THEAirline

Now you have a brand! THE Airline!

"Don't fly with any Airline
Fly with THEAirline!"

I wonder, of all the people that are buying .tels thinking they will make great directories, how many are actually going to do that, and of those how many have any experience trying to develop a website.

My guess is there is a lot of zeros there.

Sorry, correct me if I am wrong but all this means is that Google has indexed the site ie. the Google crawlers have found and recorded it. My questions are:

1. Where does it come in a G Search for "Jag"?

2. Is there a G Tool to find where a particular page a domain appears at?

I used G Page Rank Checker on on Jag.tel and it came in at 0/10. But I want to know which page it comes in at on the "Jag" search.

2. Not sure if there is a tool but... I know in you type >> site:jag.tel or site: namenames.com it comes up on google, and I think that meant that its indexed

Why do people ask if I'm joking? Twice in this thread already. hehe.
I do joke around alot but never about my investments.
I run a large global investment firm. We actually make money!
2 of these names: moneyblog and netincome are directly suited to that niche.
Blogroll is suited to the niche as well because of my other financial blogs that can be listed on that roster.
It also happens to be a HUGE term in the blogging world at large, especially through WordPress.
Big google numbers too.
I have no plans to do a directory at this time, if ever.
I do plan to direct all traffic to my companies sites and only my companies sites.
Well worth the investment for all of our acquired .TELs from my vantage point.
As for better words, I posted a list of 147 names a few pages back in this thread that contained a few good one word keyword generics.
I have over 200 others not published that really support my chosen niches.
So far, so good. Initial acquisition target has been met!
My group is very pleased and sees only good things as far as TEL is concerned and our approach to it's usage.
No SquareHeads on my team! :hehe:

I expect Google shows results based on ip address. I still show 46 here, which is most important as I live next to Cranston and so will most users.

According to the sedo home page, .tel cannot be parked there. I just saw hire.tel in auction ($3000 with 4 1/2 hours remaining). If we cannot park the domains, how do we get them listed for auction?

You can still list the name for sale in sedo.com.

Does anyone know for sure what the commission is for sedo when selling a .tel name?

Cobo, just on the directing people to your company sites; the directing .tels will have to rank in search or be placed prominently on a high traffic site for the traffic to be driven to your sites. Now, if the .tel's were placed on a high traffic site, it could just as well be your actual site address; one less click.

So, if you want to use the .tel's to drive traffic to you .coms then the .tel's have to rank in search and this is where the problem is. There are a lot of people working on this issue at the moment. The original idea was to use the great .tel words which would have cost a fortune in .com to bring traffic to your not so good .com and/or business. Now what you are proposing, I think, from what you say is buying a cluster of say 50 key words in .tel to drive traffic to your .com. I had this idea too. Traffic stats are not essential because you are not selling to a buyer (although they would be good).

But it can not work unless the .tel's rank or can be found in another [low cost] way (if there is one).

Now ranking comes from content and from back links mainly. Content is a no go. Keywords can be used but I would think will not match a content website. On backlinks; each of the 50 .tels can have links to the other 49 .tels. But then you are going to have to figure out how to link to those .tels from other sites. There is where the challenge is and we still don't know how G is going to treat .tels and what the proportional value of content to backlinks will be.

The concept of cluster driving through high value words (unobtainable in .com) is an idea I had as well. But until the ranking issue is clear we are flying blind. Appreciate any thoughts. Cheers.

Since .tel cannot be parked, I'm assuming that it's $50 minimum commission with a $60 initial bid. It'll be 10% when the 10% is > than $50 unless sedo decides to forgive .tel for the inability to change name servers.
