What do you guys think about creating a one-stop .Tel brand that could work for every market much like YellowBook.
Thanks.
This will clearly happen sooner or later, and that is when people will have no choice but to admit that .tel is a bless, for both businesses and customers . If Telnic will not do it, I am sure that several people and companies will start working on directories similar to the Yellow Book, except that the .tel version will be a faster, more advanced, comprehensive, complex and useful version(s) of the Yellow Pages.
It is not yet clear to me if Telnic wants to just provide a platform for other people and companies to compete and develop .tel in whichever way they see fit for their needs- YellowBooks or anything else- or if Telnic will want to develop a directory superhighway themselves to organize other smaller directories based on quality, speed of info delivery and other criteria.
The Telodex was a nice idea- maybe one might just want to start displaying the main geos and the most useful or commonly used generics and their main subfolders in a huge, more organized tree-like .tel structure (maybe telodex.tel will develop into something like that- for similar purposes I got telpower.tel initially, since power.tel was taken by IBM if I am not mistaken)- the idea being then to try linking these geos and generics to the most useful or advanced links on that particular subject/ subsubject- other .tels or .coms or whatever happens to be most useful on the net. Basically from personal experience I know that a person organizing a certain subject or geo under a .tel can do a more relevant and better job than Google and Yahoo in organizing the info and links available out there on any subject if your sole purpose is to make your particular .tel a very useful and efficient tool - you can try that for yourself on any particular subject that you are really familiar with- generic or geo if you don't believe me. To think that one person can do a better job than Google or even the Yellow Book in general is idiotic, but to think that one or more people interested in a subject can get together with other people specializing in other subjects & come up with better info than Google and Yahoo and the Yellow Pages together might one day become reality..... and maybe .tel is one such chance if the right people use it properly....
The main problem is that often there will be financial conflict between really valuable content and sponsored content- which is why maybe serios people developing .tels should clearly disclose their sponsors, in the same way people do in the academic world if the lecturer has any potential financial conflicts of interest. That would not be necessary for paid directories like the Yellow Pages, but might be of some value for other sites meant to provide reliable and useful information....
I understand that it is very hard to stay objective, but regardless of what we think right now there will be a process of selection and evolution, and in the end we will be left with either the best version(s) of these directories based on speed, value, etc, or history will repeat itself with unjustified bs, hype and anti-social monetary incentives dominating the picture to the detriment of everybody else..... Sorry about the long (and utopic) message once again- maybe I am just dreaming here, but somehow I feel that I am stating the obvious and that a lot of you out there might be thinking the same, more or less....
My humble opinion is that .com is great, but a .tel + .com is better. In other words don't try to compare .com with .tel regarding their intrinsic usefulness and value (I do understand the interest in comparing their monetary value)- it's a little like trying to compare apples with tomatoes, or comparing the usefulness of a search engine with that of a .com- you are basically better off to have both...... In terms of how much a .tel should be sold for compared to a similar .com, it will be based on individual needs and quality of each domain, but it is certain that you will see some surprises at times...
