Hi

For this, let's assume that .tel will not be a total flop.

What type of keywords will be most valuable for this extension? Will it be geographical keywords, like newyork.tel, losangeles.tel, etc, or what else?

You have SanDiegloApartments.tel, if you want to offer "jimsmith" a listing than his domain name would be jimsmith.sandiegoapartments.tel. I'm pretty sure Jim smith could find a better name for his business card, JimSmith.tel comes to mind.

If you are looking to just do a directory, than why go with the .tel? It does not make it easier. They way I see it, the .tel is for quick contact info on the go. Using a cumbersome name like SanDiegloApartments.tel and offering listings, is not what the .tel extension is about. That is my two cents anyway, your individual results may vary :hehe:

Sorry mate, but you didn't really understand what's behind that idea but I respect your point of view.
Just to answer to your questions:
1- No need to promote a subdomain like jimsmith.sandiegoapartments.tel, just type sandiegoapartments.tel to find apartments for sale or rent.
2- If jimsmith.tel was already taken or it's for contact info only so sandiegoapartments.tel is better. Also name.tel will not be professional to list apartments for sale or rent.
Building a directory that fits web and mobile display, hosting cost, finding perfect dot com... lot of work, time and money consuming.
Also many real estate agent have their listings on their web company that is a really long url and have many informations that won't fit a mobile device.
So .tel is great to show apartments with contact info if they where interested, you also can redirect to the company full listing so they can browse it when back on their desktop computer.

It's a great idea, and I'd be all for that.

However, you would want to make sure that the popunder or page would be mobile-compliant or develop some kind of software command that would automatically reformat the page to a mobile compliant page.

Also, Telnic might have some spamming issues and would probably want to place some restrictions on what could go on that page.
*
Not only for mobile-compliance but regular PC as well.
By using the current device detection technology which enables the site to tell if one is coming from a PC then the "regular" site version popunder can show.
If from a mobile then the popunder could show the mobile version.
I'm not a techie but have read of such application in the world of mobility.
Get both Mobile and Regular PC Views worked out with this "popunder" thinking and .TEL is readily monetized. To the BANK!
This also works if the underlying site is already both PC and mobile viewable.
Click and you are there! The "Hover-Over" and/or "Pop-Under" looks certainly are creative ways to get traffic to the "real" sites though. Thanks for the thoughts with this intriguing application!

If you plan on developing the site, that is cool. But I don't think anyone would buy the name from you or even a listing when they could get SDrentals.tel or something like it and do the same thing.

I disagree, if I have an agent for anything, Real Estate or otherwise their name in the .tel would be professional. The .tel after all is for contact info. If you think having your name in the .tel is not professional than I don't know why you are purchasing .tel domain names.

Building a real directory, if one was serious about it, would be easier with any extension other than .tel

.tel is good for that, so any real estate agent would benefit by having their own name in the the .tel to offer their contact info.

the big difference on the Sandiegoapartments.com versus the Sandiegoapartments.tel is the hosting fees that the dot tel will save that's huge in my book.

Here's my proposal for a standard .Tel contact page with a "popunder" website from a second URL, TelTowing.com. You'll see that I have also added a logo to the .Tel contact page:

Image 1: Tel contact page over popunder site.

http://www.namepros.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=14099&stc=1

Image 2: Popunder site only.

http://www.namepros.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=14101&stc=1

In order to launch the primary .Tel contact page and secondary popunder website simultaneously, Telnic would need to add a preference for auto launching a second URL. The second URL could be anything from a business website, like the example images, to a personal MySpace or Facebook website. For people who buy their .Tel domain through MySpace, that would probably be an excellent fit.

Since Telnic looks in on this thread quite often, I wanted to get opinions on adding this capability.

Would this be helpful? If it would be, I think it's important to let Telnic know. If there's not much response, there would be little reason for Telnic to consider it.

Thanks.

Ms Domainer & Cobo, thank you for your feedback. What I find most frustrating is that while most threads debate the merits of .Tel as well as how to get the most from the current .Tel offerings, I'm trying to draw attention to added capability that could take .Tel to a whole new level and shouldn't be technically difficult to implement - but if the members of this thread won't collectively chime in, it becomes a non-starter that Telnic would have little reason to pursue.

In fact, the very basis for many .Tel skeptic objections would be overcome with a well executed popunder functionality.

It's not that the other issues are not important. They are. I was just hoping that the response would be loud and clear:

"If this can be done, then, by all means, Telnic, lets do it!"

So with that said, I would ask that .Tel domainers take a second look at this concept and respond.

Just picked up:

411.tel
ClevelandOhio.tel

Well, it never showed up in my account and when called to see what went wrong, I found out that the 411.tel was blocked. I'll probably wait till my bank account stop pending and try another name.

I couldn't register it.

Good news: I found an idea on renting or selling apartments with dot tel.
I own top 5 U.S. cities for apartment rentals:
NYCapartments.tel...... (I've already post it in tel showcase) but here is a DEMO

Go to sandiegoapartments.tel (with your mobile phone like iphone will be better)
1. Click For Rent (will rename later to rentals as was testing)
2. Tall Tower
Now you see description of apartment with price...
Also click link (Site web) Photos
then click link Back to sandiegoapartments
Also Geo location gives actual location of apartment.

Any comments are welcome.

Have I stepped into a time warp and landed in AOL 1.0? Do you honestly consider this to be a viable option here in 2009?

Seriously. Flip them to another domainer while you still can.

You can't register all numbers--against TOS.

You could register something like 4II.tel

I agree with you. I said earlier what is the point in going from a website where the only limit is your creativity, to a directory. They already have a directory, it is called a phonebook.

People can just go to YP.com, type in "Apartments" and location "San Diego" and find all the same or more info.

Plus, if people really wanted to run this script they could do it from any extension.

I don't see the future in these directory sites.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but with names like those, you may be tied up in civil court for a long time, especially domains like Harry Potter. Rowling is very protective of her trademarks and Batman is definitely a TM.

Before regging any more domains, PLEASE read the legal issues and disputes threads about trademarks:

Most of those would be grace deletes for me if possible. I mean what is the plan with a domain like BuzzLightYear.tel or CookieMonster.tel? Do you have their contact info?

Other ones like DonaldTrump.tel are playing with fire.

Question. This may have been asked and answered in a previous post. If so, my apologies.

I am trying to place html text links on a .Tel page. Is it possible to, I guess you may call it, mask the url as a text word or sentence much like in an html composed e-mail with hyperlinks.

Thanks.

You just wasted alot of money, most of those are TMs and have absolutely 0 value, even the ones that arent TM arent even remotely valuable in .com
