Hi

For this, let's assume that .tel will not be a total flop.

What type of keywords will be most valuable for this extension? Will it be geographical keywords, like newyork.tel, losangeles.tel, etc, or what else?

I logged into the .tel control panel.
I have no idea on how to realistically monetize it.

I can ask somebody if he wants to lease a subdomain contact page, but his questions will be:

1) Does it receive traffic? If so, how much traffic per day/week/month?
2) Why should I advertise there?

Do you guys have any realistic answers or are you guys hoping that somebody will come and make an offer on your name?

Feature requests:

Allow mass upload of contact info using CSV file
Allow search function

same problem here but I'm sure Dynadot will work themselves out of this situation.

I also pre-regged staff.tel, with BB Online and I saw that it became unavailable a few days before GA :(

A few of mine are:

his.tel, her.tel (for the perfect couple :)
gary.tel
morgan.tel
walker.tel
smiths.tel
millers.tel
taylors.tel
marys.tel
johns.tel
mikes.tel
davids.tel
pauls.tel
toms.tel
jacobs.tel
kev.tel
kath.tel
mrs.tel

sofas.tel
main.tel
bedroom.tel
marathon.tel
ephone.tel (tel-ephone)

mad.tel (3 keypresses on a mobile)

Yes, I believe everyone and their mobile will have a .tel :D

In my guess-timation it will difficult to monetize directory listings due to numerous limitations regarding the domain's DNS rules and rigid template layout. But I do think flipping .TELs during the first 6 months to 1 year could prove rewarding.

The short term risk/reward is attractive. IMO.

Call me old school but when you fresh register a domain name it should be able to be modified as soon as the registrar confirms payment. Waiting for the dns to update - fine that's normal

I think now that we are past the first couple of days of GA it will smooth out.

Did you have plans for this name prior to purchase?

Perhaps "Sugar Steel Engineering" in Australia would be interested in this domain name as they use "Monkey" to describe their services.

Monkey.tel could be a zoo contact database or I think the name would be nifty for some sort of contact database for a certain network of users.

Just brainstorming...

is there any way to control the layout of a .tel page or is it fixed to the existing template?
Does .tel allow any more control of the domain than just contact listing?

Each .tel domain has a fixed layout page.

At the moment you can only add contact information, but as time moves forward, I am sure the extension will evolve to take on new ideas and technologies.

My thoughts too!

But i belive it will be next generation ad place.....all will walk arroud with blueberry, i mean all, kids from 5 to older people, and when they will be hungry in the meadly of nowhere, they will go to fastfood.tel to see if someone of advertised ones are close :hehe:
Just my opinion, i still dont know how to develop it and is it possible to make under for example fastfood.tel:
go to: fastfoods europe
go to: fast food america
.....

and then when you go to: fast food europe under that you would have countries, and under every country cities, and under each city you will have FASTFOOD RESTAURANTS WITH CONTACT NUMBER AND ADDRESS AND WORKING TIME :sold:

I imagined it like that, but i have no clue if i have right :hehe:

And then, you just have good power in convincing people that will be replacement for most adds you are experiencing now :imho:

But like i said, maybe i am completely wrong :hehe:

Wouldn't that be cool if the extension evolved to the point where GPS played a role? For example, you're in a city and you go to "city.tel" (not mine) and it automatically displays relevant contact information based on your current location?

Sorry if this has been answered within the 91 pages of this thread...but does anyone know if you can setup an email account with .tel? For example, [email protected]

Thanks!

I was on domainmonster last night and this morning (green checkmark and whois), editing my staff.tel, and BAM it was gone!

I called them up and they said there was a last minute $325 sunrise app for the name. CRAZY
I "thought" I had one, late last night. But it failed immediately. Someone beat me to it at the last second I guess. Oh well.

Many people are purchasing these names based on keywords. With the purpose of this extension based towards contact information, I can't see much of these keywords succeeding.

On the flip-side, those with strong keywords relevant towards contact information I see them succeeding, and thus might I say, profiting? Whether the ROI is within 6 months or 1+ years, some will do well.

On the far side of the spectrum, though, ROI could be outstanding within the extensions first 6 months perhaps due to hype. Unfortunately, that could be the only profiting taking place.

When doing any investing, it's always best to consider both sides :).
