Hi

For this, let's assume that .tel will not be a total flop.

What type of keywords will be most valuable for this extension? Will it be geographical keywords, like newyork.tel, losangeles.tel, etc, or what else?

You might want to get your .TEL listed in the free TELODEX link directory, so other people and search engine crawlers can find links to your .TEL name/webinfo. I just found this directory, and I'm sure many new directories will be popping up to cater to .TEL domain owners soon.

Many people are doing creative stuff with the .TEL domains like making link web sites (of a fashion) with their .TEL domains and sub-domains, and some people are now able to receive e-mail with their .TEL domains by adding a .MX record at their registrar or via the SOAP interface to the .TEL data. Search the telsters forum for tips on how to do these creative things.

.tel is already .annoying. I set up my telhost account last night and only one domain was added. How long does one have to wait? And how long till anything actually becomes active?

I'm giving it a fair chance but so far pain in the arse comes to mind...

I don't know if this is the correct answer but when you change your DNS settings, which is essentially what you are doing when you set up a .tel, it can take a while to spread throughout the web. Usually it happens pretty fast but not always.

Also, just the large number of people setting up their .tel pages could be jamming up the system.

I'm still showing "problem" with my dynadot preorders. Anyone having any luck with these yet?

I did mine last night and gave up waiting, but it
was live by this morning, so not too long :)

I preorder some domains with them, and I just saw thru whois that they are registered with dynadot, but not with my account..
I asked about refund, no answer yet.

Posted on dynadot forum:

There are a couple hundred TEL domains that we are still adding to the system. These were domains that were registered in preorder, or possibly in the first hour of launch.

There was a problem with some of the registry connections during launch, so the orders ended up in problem status. However the domains were registered by us, and we are now manually adding them to the correct accounts.

Call me old school but when you fresh register a domain name it should be able to be modified as soon as the registrar confirms payment. Waiting for the dns to update - fine that's normal but waiting for domains to get into an account which you can actually manage also needs to be time consuming?

bonjour est-il encore 1989! LOL
