Hi

For this, let's assume that .tel will not be a total flop.

What type of keywords will be most valuable for this extension? Will it be geographical keywords, like newyork.tel, losangeles.tel, etc, or what else?

i feel unless you were specific in your geo/name they are toooooo vague ???

i just grabbed irealestate ...... maybe a big headed agent will buy later down the track

the geo specific are the best , i think some people here are missing the point of the extension ..... its not designed for parking revenue

just my views

Good point, anyone reading this thread should be warned, you cannot park these domain names.

Please help if you can....

I have NorthAmerica.tel

It shows up as northamerica.tel

I was told to delete all of my sub-directories which I had created and that I would be able to re-enter the heading North-America.tel, which would then solve my problem, as the hyphen dissappears.

Well, I deleted all of the sub folders I had created and now.... NOTHING! I am still unable to change the appearance of northamerica.tel...

Any ideas????

www.northamerica.tel

There are a couple of things you have to look at:

#1: your domain name.
Every single domain name is case insensitive. Always has been, always will be. You cannot capitalize a domain name in any way, shape or form (whether a .com or a .tel)

#2: Display on the telproxy.
The telproxy tries to capitalize the display of your subdomain links (subdomain links within the page ONLY) in the following way:
every dash is replaced with a space, and first letter of every word is then capitalized. So xyz-abc becomes "Xyz Abc".

Note that for #2, there is absolutely no way we will ever try to guess the capitalization of a (sub)domain. Imagine for example johnnysmith.tel

It could be:
Johnny Smith
or:
John Nysmith

We can't guess it, and we won't guess it.

That said, note that soon we will allow labels for .tel links (i.e. subdomain links). Then we'll be able in the telproxy to use those labels as the main display for the links, which will allow you to capitalize to your hearts' content.

Thanks,
H

I was checking out some .tel domains on my iPhone such as Justin.tel and they look extremely plain. Just plain white background and no icons for each category or anything. Doesnt look like how a mobile iPhone site in 2009 should look like. Much different than if you access it from the computer.

that is disappointing
i actually like the look on the pc, again if i could get my name i prob would get just the one

what's weird is i tried out a .tel on the .mobi emulator at ready.mobi assuming would do great but couldn't even see on a nokia screen D-: , and got a lowly 3/5
not good

I think that is what they are going for. The KISS approach. (keep it simple stupid)

pros:
- faster loading
- smaller (and therefore cheaper)
- same across all mobiles, guaranteed

cons:
- not as pretty as an iphone-only version

At this point we're staying with the faster-loading, super simple version. We do have a nice iphone version (see http://largeco.tel on your iphone) but it's a hell of a lot of javascript just to mimic the iphone prettiness.

Interesting, it could be an issue with the emulator or something that should really be addressed by .tel. If a freaking nokia has problems resolving a .tel domain that would be very bad news for the extension.

simple is good but this is simple to the point that it looks very unprofessional like a 5 year old made the site in 1994. The look of it from a PC is much better even though its simple.

this is only the 2nd day of general registration with a lot of good generic stuff still avail. I wouldnt waste money regging non generic domains such as "i" and "e" and other similar names.

If you go to namepros.mobi it will look like that 5 year olds younger brother made the site. D-: Websites are not pretty when you strip away all but the bare bones.

I agree. Those are for people that decide a month or more from now they want to jump in :)

I grabbed a real estate name too:
Propiedad .tel = "Property" in Spanish.
Also grabbed a country name!
Crna Gora .tel = "Montenegro" in their native tongue.
Who else grabbed some foreign language names and which ones did you get?

some names are way too generic in my view

if i was given the address irealestate to go to, i would expect the person who owns it is in that industry and it would offer their details

to me it does what it says

so i am happy

OnlineTravel.tel

Seeing as though I have the .tv version of this domain, I thought that the .tel would compliment it somewhat.

RealEstate.tel is generic and you registered a lesser term of a that generic. You could go with the "e", "i" or "my" prefix. I'm not following your logic here, but if you are happy that is cool!
