Mobile web surfing is barely in it's adoption-infancy.

Calling .mobi a failure before the toddler can stand... chicken little.

Calling .mobi a failure before the toddler can stand... player hater.

Mobile is limited by bandwidth, hardware and immediate corporate ROI (despite industry growth projections).

We're 4+ years from being able to even think about calling for success or failure.

It sure seems that way to me. It's regrettable but has significantly contributed to NP no longer being the #1 mobi forum, at least according to Google.

Reality!

Frustrating times, indeed, for the .MOBI ... and those with their rosey-colored .MOBI Glasses™ on, IMHO. :gl: :red:

The sole RFP and bungling of the RFP's (and process) was a setback, but one may take solace in the following advice as posted in the runing Ms. Caroline thread:

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I hear your frustration; but like all new initiatives and ventures, there will be plenty of bumps on the "grand camino" to success.

The people at MTLD have done a commendable job. I've been especially impressed with Neil Edward's "mobi message" and Ms. Greer's efforts. When I've emailed her, she has replied back within a hour.

I know we live in an "instant gratification" world, but this is a new approach to domains and it will take some time.

I'm confident they will get it right!

I don't share his confidence, but hopefully they are better getting their act together ... successful RFP's are critical! ... tick tock, tick tock IMHO. :yell:

See you at the beach, I'm off to pack again for the Cape! :music:

It's unfortunate at this pivotal time (for the extension), IMHO. :gl::

it would appear that mTLD does not feel that way by their timetable. Using the casino analogy, with them as the house, they would love it if we were happy, but will probably do construction in the casino and kick the gamblers out, if a new 3xl casino can be built. perhaps in their eyes the gamblers will come back or stand the storm for a while. the key is they have an even bigger investment - they own the casino. And with the good people working there and their big business partners - i bet they plan this all out and monitor it on a scheduled basis in "meetings" which have no endtime until the conclusions and objectives are reached.

on behalf of mr. :imho: , answer this one question..
if you cared so much about the .mobi ecosystem, why are you draining it?

:hi:

I'm developing a .MOBI (to be completed in the Fall '07) and thus adding to the "ecosystem"! :yell: :imho:

mTLD, though, as evidenced by the bungling of the important RFP's as well as the 1,000's of languishing reserved/premium undeveloped .MOBI domain names, is not supporting an developed "ecosystem" IMHO. :guilty:

I want answers, as most should, as to why mTLD itself is not supporting the RFP's and "ecosystem" ... and even considering auctioning RFP domain names! :gl:
Substance is needed, thanks for understanding.

whipty do. I guess this will put the stupid 'ecosystem' on the 'right course'.

Then why don't you approach them and demand the answers, so we don't have to read your same gripes over and over and over and over and....

Yes, packing today and going crazy with my massive "To Do" list ... I'm psyched, though! :yell: :lala:

Hey, now that wasn't necessary ... I'm doing my small part (and within my budget for both development, time, and marketing monies (from my previous .MOBI sales)), IMHO.
The "ecosystem" is not stupid!

Pinky, Caroline, Vance, Neil, and James (and before that, Alexa) choose not to post ... and to all of those here who have spent their hard-earned money and energies on countless 1,000's (and $10,000's) of .MOBI domain name registrations to not get the same respect, is disheartening IMHO.
See you soon.

heh heh heh...

to put this very bluntly: having no answers makes this a great speculative investment.

if ALL or even MOST of the answers were available all the time......well, thats really not even possible.. it would be called guessing or bullshitting at that point.

imagine having all the answers to everything about the internet in 1993, a year after the world wide web was conceived.. THAT is about where we are with the mobile internet.... overall, the "mobile web" is still this big huge secret.. nobody could possibly have even 1/10 of the answers.. because the people with the answers might not even be involved yet!

where were all the answers when old school domainers in 1995 and 1996 were snatching up generic .com's ?

there wernt any (or very very little)... welcome to no-answerville 2007, population: just a few of us.

Because if he got some answers direct from the source, he wouldn't have anything to gripe, complain, or insinuate about. Although I can't help but think he'd always be able to find something new.

Food for thought regarding the redirects: On most mobile devices, your current http address isn't even shown (can't waste the screen space) -- so once you've typed in amtrakorwhatever.mobi and arrived at that page, where the rest of the site's pages are stored is completely irrelevant. So, as even Jeff is apparently slightly aware:

Fair enough from a branding perspective ...
-- branding is what it's all about.

But the fact that this point needs to be made yet again for the umpteenth time to the same person is nuts.

with maybe $40 in profit, and spending all your time posting the same tired responses over and over here, this should be an eagerly anticipated and interesting site.

Thanks, $40+ is good seed money for my .MOBI development ("ecosystem" support) project ... best of all is I still own a few other primo .MOBI's free and clear, as well! :tu:

I recognize the branding issue, as previously stated ... but I do not support that a simple redirect is a development of that .MOBI domain name adding to the developed "ecosystem", IMHO. Legitimate development of .MOBI websites with unique and compelling content for those "on the go" ... along with marketing and promotions (thus branding) AND support from mTLD (similarly facilitating the building of the important "ecosystem" with the 1,000's of reserved/premium and especialy RFP domain names) is what is needed at this time, in my view. :yell:
At the risk of repeating myself, of course ...

See you then.

Ignore works.

Use it.

You are aware of the downside. It's obvious.

Ho hum.

The downside doesn't change.

What does change is news, on a weekly basis on any type of use - redirect or not.

Good to hear ... we should probably suspend all other NP .mobi forum activity until that time since just about NONE of the news of new sites and companies using .mobi names to brand their mobile information seems to make it to the status of true, pure, "ecosystem" building IYHO.
Note to self: $40 total profits pryed out of the hands of reluctant, beaten down buyers weary from viewing the marathon sales threads for skedaddle & honkers .mobis) ....

Jeff said:

Maybe not as a general concept .... but to repeatedly parrot the term at every turn IS stupid IMHO. Just like if everyone posted "ecosystem-shmecosystem" following EVERY future post where you just had to use the terms "critical" ... "all important" ..."ecosystem" "tick tock" "hammer, head, nail" , etc. again.

Old dog, no new tricks.

See, no good turn goes unskepticized. Dot Mobi is at its heart a BRANDING "issue" - NO ifs, and, or BUTs. Whoever has taken any time to register and use a .mobi URL in any capacity - understands that. Dot Mobi MEANS mobile content first.

Good, have fun. Oh and here, you might want to use this one for your trip - AAA.mobi

Nah, nobody of any consequence is adopting .mobi .... it's probably just a mistake ....

:hi:

There's already another thread regarding AAA.mobi, so I thought it appropriate - since we are all talking REALITY here - that I post the following thread from 11-06-2006 ... in other words, tens of thousands of babies have been born since this thread and the only ONE RFP that mTLD could deliver was recycled Weather.mobi, IMHO. :guilty:

Enjoy your fellow member's posts, the importance - STILL - of the RFP's is paramount friends! :yell:

Thread:
http://www.namepros.com/dot-mobi/254921-list-four-premium-names-put-out.html?highlight=rfp

And here's the latest entry at http://mtld.mobi/switched/premiumsales.html :

Request for Proposals (RFP) Process

The RFP process was approved by ICANN and was developed in collaboration with dotMobi's Policy Advisory Board. It provides an opportunity to develop critical mobile user content in order to promote the adoption and use of the .mobi domain.

The first Request for Proposals (RFP) process commenced in November 2006 and has now closed. There is currently no open RFP process.

For further information on the RFP application process that was in place, please download our application.

Any successful RFP applicants are required to enter into contract discussions with dotMobi - please download the template RFP contract.

One teeny step forward (Weather.mobi), and three GIANT rungs backwards (news.mobi, ringtones.mobi, sports.mobi)! :'( :imho:
Just my two sense, in all reality.
-Jeff B-)

PS. In regards to above, "where you just had to use the terms "critical"", etc., the term CRITICAL is not from me, it's from mTLD!! :guilty: :snaphappy:

mtld is useless as far as I'm concerned... But companies (like BOFA and AAA) are backing the idea -- maybe these guys are our real backers :imho:

Does it not make sense that one can like an iPod without liking Apple?

Because I like .mobi but sure hate mtld :yell:
