This is a time old debate since both hve been around a good deal of time. However, I wondered what your thoughts where on this.

I picked up a domain that I "think" had dropped, called eHelper.co.uk - This cost me $8.88 to reg at name cheap.

Now, I've been in contact with the owner of eHelper.com - Thought it wouldnt hurt to enquire as it's sitting on a holding page.

The guy messages me back, and he claims he paid $8,000 for the domain and wouldnt sell it unless the offer was in that region or higher.:lala:

This obviously begs the question of the potential value of eHelper.co.uk?

Thoughts please :)

Ehelper isnt a keyword by itself . I searched ovt , it doesnt show any thing. Google shows only 747 results.

I think this would be in the low and mid xx .... Really surpirsed to see 8000 $ for that...

This was exactly my thoughts aswell.

Maybe he's just being a chancer *shrugs*

I'm not really concerned on the value of the domain, as I'm going to work it....but always interesting to see this kind of "chasm" of difference.

A chancer...!!!

Show me a domainer who hasnt used this technique from one time or another?

You can be assured he didnt pay $8k for it, though probably doesnt realise another domainer is enquiring... I always tell would be sellers that I am not an enduser, instead a domainer and would they be willing to trade wholesale.

With regard eHelper.co.uk - i personally think the fad for e prefixes is drawing to a close (developed brands not withstanding) so .com $350, .co.uk $80.

Thanks for the comments Ian.

I think it depends what you do with the domain. For me, this is a core development project, with a view to advertising the name to a certain market.

It's unlikely that anyone would "just search" under that term, however, if the name had been virally spread, then they may search for it to get the full address, having been unsure if .com or .co.uk

Might be that they didnt know I was a domainer, but I would agree with your valuations in all honesty.

eHelper.com by no means seems to be worth $8000. Probably low $xxx seems to be the right value imo.
