Does anyone else get the vibe I get? That maybe everyone has cheapened up so much here and become so picky and critical, less sales are transacting? That people just expect too much for so little? You see it daily in the requests --- 4L pronouncable, $50k estibot, Aged 20 Years Budget $100. It can't be that far off. This is a GREAT site and useful site for knowledge. It got many to learn but I worry about it lately. How can we fix this? More knowledge given? More money spent? Or a different path?

Maybe I'm just hot from summer. pfft.

You are100% correct. I problem is n many new domainers join up and don't do their research and try and buy and sell names for ridiculous prices. It sometimes baffles me when I see the requests and auctions here. People need to learn the game before going out an buying names.

Its like me going into a theatre to do a brain surgery and not reading up on what Im doing and just pulling out a scalpel and start cutting, hoping Im doing it right. (well sort of :xf.smile:)

100 percent. And I'm not posting this because I think I know it all -- not even close, I don't and fully admit that I'm still learning even after multiple years. It takes good amounts of time. But one thing I do is I constantly read about and research this stuff. It's almost like an obsession. Hopefully it pays off. You have to constantly sponge in new knowledge and listen to others.

Exactly, we are all learning all the time. My advice is for all new domainers to spend a few months reading this forum before buying a single name. Its very easy to fall into the trap of buying names you think will sell.

The newbies urge to hit it after reading sales of others is almost irresistible. Only few are able to resist it.

    Am among the majority:ROFL:

I think it's sales technique saying $20k to 100k$ budget to get more and more domains for review and finally buy one or 2 domains at so called wholesale price of under 100$ after all who verifies budget and number of domains bought at the end..

    Thanks,
    Sumeeth

uhh debatable... some pronounceable LLLL.com would run 100-200 here on auction.

My thing here is not so much low budget its when you have people bumping threads over 100 times for a 1M start auction. Or you something like asdfjklklj.com BIN $20,000

For me this site is for great info. Not a marketplace. The marketplaces that are out there are all lame imho. They have substandard services compared to almost everything else out there. Prices are being squeezed everywhere from what I see.

I admit I "cheapened" up in my buying, simple reasons ..I believe it is a "buyers market" and I smartened up and put myself on a budget (buying/renewal/hosting/etc), so I have to be more selective.

Miss the days when there were less extension, decision were easier then.

    Hi

    from my perspective,
it won't get any better, if you think it's getting worse

sure, there is plenty of info and knowledge for up and coming entrants
though many of them want to be spoon fed, rather than feeding themselves

but for those who've been around for years, there's not much meat to chew on
I see too much rehash of same hash or highlights of fluff with no substance
so, best thing they can do is contribute to some conversations, maybe offer some advice
    and...
since majority of offers will be the lowest of the low, and most submissions will be the crappiest of the crap
then they don't have a lot of enthusiasm for posting names for sale or even posting in domains wanted sections.

for us/them...the good old days are gone and won't ever come back.

for newbies, these are the good times
almost every name they get, they think it's premium or gold, or will label it as such.

to them, outspam has no bounderies or restrictions, it's a free for all, monkey see, monkey do trend,
one that's gotten out of hand, but still being passed around like candy.
they think brokers are waiting and willing to help sell their just regged names
and end-users are eager to receive their solicitation emails.

times have surely changed and they will never be the same
but I guess it's just an evolution of the domain buying and selling game

    :)

    imo....

    Hello,

We're working on some new features to help with these things. :)

In the meantime, consider spending more time in the Insiders Club where members with access are generally more serious about the domain business than someone who recently created a free account.

    Thanks for starting this discussion.

there are members who just joined last month, who are insiders
and anyone who's willing to upgrade to gold, can also participate

so, basically I don't see any difference between some of them, and some of those who recently joined with free accounts.

as insiders club doesn't represent 'tenured' members anymore..

    just saying...

    imo...

Yes, but anyone who is willing to pay (and continue to pay monthly or yearly) is often a lot more serious about the domain business than someone who joined for free and isn't willing to pay. It really helps filter out a lot of the problems that are seen on the open, free boards.

    (Insider club)
Generate more types of forum (standard & nonstandard ) that will attract participants/readers. The current format (3) is not enough.
