Hi everyone! The 3D market appears to be exploding! Record takes at the box office by movies such as Avatar and Alice in Wonderland and the announcement this week of the new 3D TV which is set to hit markets shortly have helped buoy interest in 3D multimedia platforms. Even the major American television network NBC has jumped in and will be broadcasting the NCAA Final Four basketball games in 3D!

A direct beneficiary from this renewed interest and greatly improved 3D technology is the domain business. Some of you had foresight many years ago and reg'd great names early on. Others (myself included) have only become aquainted with 3D domaining more recently, but see the huge potential this market has opened up for domainers.

Let this be the place for you to show off your 3D domain names. Ask for opinions, marketing strategies or even an appraisal or guesstimation of value. Also, feel free to post any relevant news releases/articles related to the 3D industry.

I will start the thread off with a few of my own reg's..

3DHighDefinitionTV.com (also have plural)
3DHomeEntertainment.co.uk
3DHometheaters.org
3DStreamingMovie.com
3DVancouver.com
3DWhistler.com

Saucey. ;)

That's a lot less crazy than some of the other domains in this thread. First, seriously, think about this iconic moment in American movies:

2rp4d3l.jpg

No idea how I'm screwing up this image, but enter it in your browser and you'll see what I mean

Second, there are various technologies that could be showcased on such a domain, if you wanted to do some development. In the early 1990s I hung out with a bunch of stoners (I, um, used it purely for medicinal purposes myself) and I bought a decorative box at Sharper Image that projected a 3D image of its contents on the top of the box. I'd put a lighter in it and let the fun write itself as one half-baked idiot after another tried to pick the lighter up off the top of the box. Stuff like that still exists, and while it might be trivial nonsense, it's trivial nonsense that sells.

There's also this kind of tech:

Toshiba Flatbed 3D Display: Science Fiction in the News
Toshiba Interactive 3D Display Video At SEATAC 2006: Science Fiction in the News

So no, I actually think that domain has a lot of potential -- maybe not from a pure reseller standpoint but from an actual, currently-available monetisation standpoint.

Frank

Thanks for that post FM.

Maybe some of that was in my subconcious, but I didn't realize it.

I was watching the video demo of Bumptop technology with the touchscreen, watching the guy flip images and icons around the screen and I thought, that would be a lot easier on a horizontal screen, rather than a vertical one. My initial thought was that with a large enough tabletop screen, a group of people could play a poker game using virtual playing cards and virtual chips.
Your post has opened up a lot more ideas.

Thanks again.

ps. I watched the video on Orcus' blog. ^^^ Nice job Orcus !

Another 2good-2pass reg:

3DWEBWIDGETS.COM / 3DWEBWIDGET.COM

Me thinks most sites won't do a complete 3D redesign, but will add a 3D web widget that fills a need and looks good going it.

Ya, it doesn't fit the extension very well, but, I thought I'd give it a shot anyways. Adwords is listing it at 5,400 exact monthly searches already with growing trends, so, I thought I'd take this one and see how it goes.

I like view3d.me, I can see that being made into a cool site.

3dsend dot com
Doesn't really fit 3d i guess but send has over 1b google so someone out there may find a niche for it.

3ddominos dot com (the game, not the pizza)
3ddominios dot com -domains in Spanish
mini3dvideos dot com -my 3dminivideos is receiving the greatest no. of uniques out of my 3d's so thought i would reg this one.

Advice needed. When sticking non-english domains on sedo is it best to put them up in their native language or in english i.e dominios?
