I think it is a good marketing idea. If you have a service or product that requires a phone call. Why not make you DN the same as you 800#, just makes for one less thing a consumer has to remember. However I also think they should have a brandable DN too. Just point them both to the same site and advertise whichever DN goes best w/ the type of ad being run.

I had looked at doing this same thing a year or so ago but kept finding that most 800 #'s that actually spell things are already taken - and not necessarily by a company that is in the same business as what their phone # spells out.

By not having the actual phone number, I feel you'll only end up confusing your customer if you use an "800" domain name.

Trying to buy the # from the current owner could be QUITE EXPENSIVE if they would even actually consider it. They'd need to change all there letterhead, advertising, employee business cards, multi-page sales invoices/forms, notify all their current customers, etc, etc, etc...

Plus I think (keyword here is "THINK") it may be "illegal" to resell phone numbers.

Just my two pence...
