So I have been in domains since 2000, and along the road, I also got a few 800 numbers. A while back I was in chat here at NP, and a member started talking about 800 numbers and domains that match them. 800FLOWERS is one of the more popular 800 numbers.
One of my numbers is 800-266-2728, which I got because it spelled out "800-BOMB-PAUL", for "Ron Paul Money Bomb", but later when I got it activated, it started ringing off the hook for people wanting Comcast services instead. I then ended up converting those callers into a business in the cable industry.
But this guy tried to say, as opposed to my "BOMB-PAUL" number, that we could not have numbers that we promote that have words longer than 7 digits like 800-FLOWERS does. Well, I have to disagree. Here are a few examples:
800-RENT-A-CAR
800-RENT-A-VAN
800-RENT-A-TRUCK
866-AW-ROOT-BEER
Now that last one does not show the "800" in front, but they do own the number 800-736-8282, or 800-RENT-A-VAN. I called and verified that it rings to their "Enterprise Rent-A-Van" line.
