With only three letters and just one syllable, I believe this provides a good basis for a successful branding perspective/campaign (versus other, longer extensions) IMHO.

Last I heard they were planning to open registrations in early 2008, so we should hear from them pretty soon.

A lot of people mis-understand .tel - this is not an extension where people will build websites. It is not, at all, a competetor to .Mobi.

.Tel will be a communications hub. A .tel name will resolve into a control panel where the various options to commucate with a company or individual will be displayed - telephone, fax, email, voice mail etc. The user will click his choice and will then be connected. A different use of the internet (or actually a repackaging of current uses). It is not at all clear where domainers will have opportuntities.

Excellent explanation, IMHO ... but from a pure branding perspective, it is a natural competitor to extensions that are longer and with an additional syllable (even if the markets and/or uses slighty diverge from each other to an as yet undefined varying degree(s))! :imho:

Just my two sense.

LOL...was that a subtle way of saying that you're not a fan of .mobi?

It will be after the asia public landrush. I read it in some article.

I don't see any :) It's not a TLD for speculation I guess ;)

.Tel is not a competitor to anything. Its like comparing apples to oranges. .Tel has absoltutely nothing to do with .mobi. If you took just 3 minutes out of your .mobi-bashing day to look up what the extension is and what its to be used for, you would know that.

Did I mention .MOBI?

Please re-read my post(s) ... again the point is, from a pure branding perspective, it is a natural potential competitor to extensions that are longer and with an additional syllable, IMHO. Again, as pointed out above, "is not at all clear where domainers will have opportuntities." :snaphappy:

Just my two sense.

No, but you implied it. I'm sure anyone who read this thread could see that.

Ok, I'll repeat myself as well. .Tel has no competitors, including the extension that you did imply. If you took the time to find out what the extension is for, then you would know that.

Haven't heard anything recently about .tel. Whether it is viable in the short-to-midterm will depend on registration stipulations, pricing, its management team, and how it launches.

IF I implied anything, I implied that ANY extension over one syllable and more than three letters will be potentially more difficult to brand ... than something that is shorter and more "natural" (such as ".TEL") IMHO.

Anyway, here more information - FAQ's - on the ".TEL" ... :gl:

Any updates on the slick .TEL !?! :talk: :lala:

Again, to me, it seems like such a "natural" insofar as its branding potential! :music: :imho:

Thanks for the assist.

I don't think anything much will happen before may. I was under the impression that trademarked domains may be available that early with a launch around Sept. This info stuck in my head from a link from a .tel discussion I read on Namepros months back.

Visit Ben.tel with your mobile phone to get a better idea of the domain's apps. It will serve a text based style of website and should be more of a contact point than for mini sites like .mobi. This may make it difficult to get parking revenue.

Yeah ... I've been doing a little additional research and reading here on the subject since I posted, seems there are still quite a few unknowns with regard to the .TEL at this time, IMHO. :gl:

Link: http://www.nic.tel/faq.html

Link: http://www.ben.tel

I'm intrigued a bit, I guess, as there may exist a potential for more than just simple "contact sites" or virtual "business cards" ... but I can't quite put my finger on it, as yet IMHO. Will there be the ability to develop additional "contact information sites" ... such as fully mobile compliant information websites using the .TEL (along with one-click ability "direct connect" feature to the End user while "on the go"), for instance? Again, it's a natural for branding purposes ... and also VERY very interesting is the fact that literally 1,000's upon 1,000's of dot Mobey scraps will be dropping this year - which seems to coincide (some might point out, collide) perfectly with the proposed timing of the .TEL (I believe its sunrise occurring in May, '08 ... and its landrush scheduled for September of this year)!! :o :santa:

I'm predicting very strongly that we'll be meeting again soon on this very topic! :guilty: :talk: :imho:

Here are the other .TEL threads that I'm just locating, as well.
Thread: http://www.namepros.com/domain-name-discussion/398440-any-news-on-tel.html?highlight=.tel

Thread: http://www.namepros.com/domain-name-discussion/395577-tel.html?highlight=.tel

Thanks for the input, and see you soon. :)

I will be in this landrush for sure. This is a solid investment.
