This will be a directory with contact info for the corresponding site, say apple.om is a commercial web site, while apple.tel will have all the contact and support info.
How expensive will .tel be?
Any info on this from Eurodns.com?

Launch information
- Sunrise (registrations reserved for trademark owners) : 3 December 2008 - 2 February 2009
- Landrush (registrations open to all at a premium price) : 3 February 2009 - 23 March 2009
- General availability (registrations open to all) : from 24 March 2009

How much will a .tel domain name cost?
Prices for a .tel domain name will vary from registrar to registrar, but should remain comparable with the prices for other popular domain names

(Information from the telnic.org website)

An example of what a .tel would be like :

Ben.tel looks pretty neat actually.

.tel is looking like a more professional version of .mp if I understand each extension's goal correctly :o

Well, all .tel domains will look the same, you can't develop 'conventional' websites on the extension :snaphappy:
Now I wonder how many people are going to purchase .tel domains without doing their homework first

well, we know one guy that is already hyping up the TLD and he knows they cant be used for real websites... yet he still hypes it up as a .mobi competitor.

talk about an axe to grind... :'(

after landrush, i intend to blame anyone who hypes up .TEL for making newbies waste their money. it will be fun.

lol. .tel seems stupid, only good if you want to have contact info, other then that it's not a domainers world.

Yes I think leave this one to the title holders and big corps. I might want my name in a .tel but wouldn't buy to resell, and wouldn't buy from someone else just to have it.

i rather go for NNNNNNNNNNNNNN.com ....

oh yea, there wont even be any NNN.tel to register because...

From the telnic.org website:

The minimum number of characters in a .tel domain is 3 and the maximum number is 63 not including the .tel suffix. Every domain must contain at least one letter from a-z or "A to Z" in standard US ASCII script. No domain can begin or end with a hyphen nor can a domain have a hyphen in the 3rd and 4th position. A .tel domain may not consist purely of digits. The .tel naming conventions are described in detail in the Acceptable Use Policy.

^ Righto, and insofar as attracting speculative investment dollars, absolutely! :yell: :imho:
There will be massive "dot Mobey" DROPS and non-renewals ... and a good chunk of this money will instead be invested in the highly brandable .TEL and other new and newer extensions, IMHO.

I replied to Kath - and to set the record straight regarding the context of the highly brandable .TEL (and .WEB) versus the obvious awkwardness of the long and problematic "dot Mobey" - earlier in another thread:

Don't buy too many .tel Jeff, because they are pretty useless :bingo:

I'm not buying any .TEL's, Kath ... but, as an extension, and compared with the long and CLUMSY "dot Mobey" - the .TEL is very highly brandable and will garner significant interest at launch from what might otherwise have been :$: renewals of "dot Mobey's", IMHO. :gl:
The .MOBI Scrapsโ„ข are coming, and en masse! :o

Enjoy the summer! :music:

there will be massive drops, but i doubt that people will spend a "huge chunk" of money on .TEL when they just took a loss with .MOBI... doesnt make much sense.

how old are you? i dont know many people who refer to their phone as a telephone anymore except my grandma and grandpa. highly brandable to who?

It's true, the few remaining "dot Mobey" teeny niche enthusiasts - like no others - are presently (and historically) the most frightened and defensive when it comes to the overall topic of the highly brandable .TEL and its forthcoming launch, IMHO. :guilty:
I wonder why they are so nervous and scared of the highly brandable .TEL extension?!? IYHO's. :|
