The most bashed TLD after GA

(inspired be viewing .TEL discussion thread).

what is the most bashed (in the period of several weeks after general availability) new TLD ICANN introduced after .info? is it .tel or any new TLD gets an equal portion of disapproval?

Any memories?

.US domains.US domains
After .eu flopped - most people were criticizing .asia. That was a very foolish TLD to release.

If memory serves, to your question ... I also believe it was the .asia

On the other hand, the .mobi was the most hyped - searching back through the historical threads here on #1 Namepros from even prior to landrush / general availability and until very recently, as for most the cold reality has sunk in by now IMHO. :guilty:
More importantly, these are all - bash or hype - potentially very good lessons ... with which to apply to the probable advent of even more to-be-released new and generally diluting gTLD's! :hint: :imho:

All the best,
-Jeff B-)

I was somewhat involved in the .me Landrush (I ordered three, got two, one outright and one after auction).

If there was any bashing, I don't remember it. Maybe it's because that's about the same time I joined here.

that's strange, I didn't remember that dot asia was the "most" bashed through the forums at namepros. I can't remember a topic bashing it (dedicated topic)

on the other hand it was the most invested generic top level domain name since creation with over $7.2 millions USD in auction. the most sought after in terms of monetary value.

at least .info is cheap

most of those other extensions are just useless

my personal favorite was .jobs..... cool.jobs taken, oh man! (sarcasm)

I think that the launch timing of .asia was the problem. It was launched at the end of the domain bubble and it failed to get significant traction in the market in the same way that .eu and .mobi did. Looking at the stats for the .asia gTLD, the numbers of new registrations seem to have collapsed and it has just entered the Junk Dump phase. Without a continual stream of new registrations to lessen the impact of the drops, .asia will have a very tough year.

Some of the newer gTLDs never even gained enough registrations so that the public was even aware of them. The .mobi seems to be the focus of a Holy War between believers and nay-sayers. The .eu ccTLD is regarded as a joke extension in Europe. It is populated with non-EU cybersquatters and cyberwarehousers, a few brand protection registrations and very little else. There hasn't been any major pure-play site launched using .eu as its primary brand.

I think that .eu was the one. The change from optimism to sheer disbelief at the incompetence of the fools in Eurid and the scale of the abuse by non-EU cyberwarehousers was rapid and, for the .eu ccTLD, final.

Regards...jmcc

Yead, that's terrible. Collapsing...Its all the registrars fault for not marketing it right.

anything that's not dot com is bashed here...basically...

The problem with .asia is that asia is a just a continent, it's not a country. There's many different cultures and people in asia. All of the countries have their own TLD. Most locals would choose their country extension over .asia.

What's next .NorthAmerica? or .NWO :bah:

Im not sure about this but you can only owe a .asia if you live in asia.

You do not have to be from Asia to own a dot Asia.

Its just that the Dot Asia Organization people had no idea what marketing is. Maybe its their first venture together.

You can use EURO DNS, Domainmonster, and even a few directi reseller for $8.5 new registration while there's a promotion going for some resellers. They have a ced contact in asia for you.

There are a lot of weak tld, so plenty to complain about. I think .Mobi was both the most hyped and most bashed. Some of the other introductions have escaped relentless bashing because they are obviously regional (.asia) or just marketing attempts to repackage a cctld (like .me) -- that is, their shortcomings are clearly visible.

.tel - the reason being that a lot of people that bought into it still never took the time to get educated about it and realize that you can't DEVELOP on it. I think it was rather telltale when Sedo almost immediately had to put up a caveat that they could not park .tel domains because .tel domains couldn't be parked...ouch!

Not sure which to vote for the worst, but I would say these extentions suck:

.asia
.eu
.tel
.jobs
.name

.tel
.mobi
.asia

.tel is fine if you understand its purpose

it does seem everything other than dot com is bashed here sometimes ???

your own cctld is the best perhaps ?? oh no the .us situation

there are now over 3 million .eu registrations, so the jury is still out.

Most of us who have invested in .tel know exactly what .tel is all about, so please don't stereotype.

The most bashed by far in terms of persistent bashing, is good old .mobi. Now its gone down as sales prices has gone down.

You might be right, but a great many of the posts in the .tel thread here show that a lot of people throwing money at .tel don't have a clue, not only about domaining but what .tel is about.
