Talking with ICANN about gTLD's

I wrote a blog the other day about the new gTLDs and how I thought ICANN was making a hasty decision to open them up to the free market next year.

To my surprise, Kieren McCarthy (ICANN’s general manager of public participation) responded to my blog post within hours. This was my first blog post on NameTalent.com's blog and my template is still under some construction (bear with me). However, it's nice to engage in discussion with an ICANN representative and see their perspective on this issue.

Feel free to submit your comments on the issue, assuming they are in good nature I will approve them fairly quickly.

Some interesting comments coming in on both sides of the issue. I picked a quote from Kieren's response to my questions which seems to represent ICANN's view on the future of the Internet and domain names. I thought it was interesting:

My personal view is that our kids are going to laugh at us in 10 years time when we keep trying to add “.com” to Internet addresses...
